I've recently bought a new laptop, unplugged all the old pc equipment and plugged in all the new laptop equipment. I cannot access the internet now?? My broadband comes through my set top box from Virgin which is downstairs, and a wire leads into my bedroom. This wire was in the bcak of the old pc and is now in my new laptop but the internet connection has failed?

If you're Bell sympatico is a wireless modem/router and your laptop has built in wireless on it you just need to connect to the wireless signal of the Bell sympatico then that should be the time you can access internet with the laptop, But if your Bell sympatico is only a plain DSL modem you need to get a wireless router that will share the internet to your laptop and desktop so you can roam in your house with your laptop here is a sample of wireless router Linksys WRT54G.

Hope that helps........

Computer Running Slow

Okay, you have the same issue I used to have. I inherited a laptop from my mother, and she was the second owner. It was loaded with programs I didn't need, and had a zillion files tucked away. If you can go into your control panel and access the add or remove programs, go through it and remove every stinkin' one of the optional programs you don't ever use, or can do without. Be sure you know what you are removing. Next --and this may sound silly, especially if you have done it already-- you need to go into your homepage in your internet connection and clear all browsing history from every browser you use. These can include google, msn, explorer, firefox, etc. I find if I don't clear my browser frequently, my computer is a real *******. The next obvious step would be to get into all my documents files and delete any old files, such as photos that you don't want, a huge music collection, etc. I have all of my music stored on my D drive, because it has the same memory as my C drive, but is nearly empty. You can store and easily access all your entertainment files in D if you have a large capacity. I would perform this test: from your start menu, open my computer and right click your c, or main hard drive and click on properties. This should give you info on how much storage space you have left on the disc. If it is less than 50 percent, you may need to delete some old trash. Do the same with your d drive. If all else fails, you can go into your recovery program and see if you can wipe the computer, but that is a last resort. I had to do this with mine so I could program it to recognize me as the computer administrator. I was tired of fighting with a zillion hidden files I couldn't get into, much less locate. Hope this will help.

HAVE TATA INDICOM LG250 MODEM CONNECTED TO MY DESKTOP PC I WOULD LIKE TO CONNECT IT TO MY HP PRESARIO C700 LAPTOP. I HAVE LAN & TELEPHONE CABLE TOO. CAN I CONNECT IT AND ACCESS THE INTERNET?

as long as you have the ports for it yes, are you trying wireless, or a wired connection? depending on how old or new your laptop is you may be able to connect the telephone line right into your laptop, although that would be dial up and very slow so i would recommend using a cat5 cable aka normal internet cable

I think you need to specify the gateway address in your new laptop. For that you have to know the gateway address ( i,e. the IP address of your boardband router/ adsl modem.).

First, go to your old laptop, right click on My Network Places, Right click on the wireless lan connection and select properties. Click on Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and click properties.
Take a note of the Default gateway.
Now come to your new laptop, use the procedure mentioned above to open the Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) Properties box. Type in the Default gateway address which you have noted earlier. Click ok twice. Now see if you can access the internet. If you can't then let me know the IP address configuration of both your old and new laptops.
