The battery in the HDD1630 can be changed, but it's a bit fiddly to do.

Remove the hex screw from the back of the casing.

Gently lever the back cover off by insert a small flat blade or metal strip in between the front and back cover at the top. (Do not try to pull it off from the bottom.)

Tape along the buttons and switches down both sides of the player, so they don't fall out when you remove the front cover.

Undo the four cross head screws in the corners of the inner panel.

Gently ease the inner workings away from the front casing. Note the ribbon cable to the front panel.

Ease the buttons on both sides away from the inner casing. They are only stuck down with double sided tape.

Lift the metal plate away from the battery and hard disc, taking care not to pull the microphone out of the plastic end cap. (If it is pulled out, it can be stuck back in place on re-assembly.

Carefully lift the battery away from the board from the end opposite the wire. Pull the battery connector out of the socket and replace.

Re-assembly is the reverse procedure.

There is none for this model. Press the on/off and volume + key at the same time. Sometimes I get so excited, I forget to do last-minute editing.

My Philips HDD 1630 is having problems with synchronizing with windows media player 10, and i've downloaded the hardware for it also

Make sure the hold/lock is not engaged.

If not:
Here is something you can try:

Triple Reset for Philips’ GoGear:

Disconnect the Go Gear from computer. Press the reset pinhole until the player turns off. Hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard. If this pop-up does not appear, reset the player again WHILE connected to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager, and go to Repair Tab. Reset the player one more time while connected to computer. Follow the repair instructions.

After repair is complete, upgrade the firmware for this player. Will erase all the songs, but you should be good to go again.

Shows "this device cannot start" when i plug in the device

My advice to you would be to go get a new media player that isn't a phillips product. The headache that the hdd 1630 caused me almost made me go insane. I spent countless hours on the phone with tech support. They even sent me a new 1630 that I had for 2 months when the same problems happened again.
This thing is nothing but a expensive paper weight.

MY Philips HDD1630 MP3 MEMORY APPEARS FULL WHEN THERE ARE NO FILES ON IT

Go to my computer open the Philips icon till you get to the music file delete it. Unplug the player from the usb cable and then reattach it. It will then show a new music file and 5.7 space available. All of your music will be gone.........but it was gone anyway. Ideally you should go to Philips and download the HDD1630/17b software and firmware and print off the instructions and redo your player. I did and it works great!!!!!

Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution.

1) Back up all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new

Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard).
