Question about ASUS P5GL-MX Motherboard

1 Answer

Its about the memory card

My ASUS P5GL-MX motherboard comes with four 184-pin (DDR) with:
1gb-PQI- DDR 400
1gb- hynix DDR pc3200;

and then i upgraded the pc with these following ram
1gb-samsung DDR pc3200
1gb-samsung DDR pc3200

When I rebooted the system, the upgrades did not register.. instead of showing 4 gb it only showed 2gb...

Can you please help me what's wrong with the upgrades?? Is it because the upgrades are not compatible with the old ones or there's something wrong with the pc??

Your help will be greatly apppreciated!

The board supports upto 4 GB RAM. PC3200 RAM is supported.

1. Reset CMOS settings by CMOS jumper.

2. Try updating BIOS of your motherboard from :

I need changes my memory 2 pcs @ 1GB DDR1 PC3200 with 2 pcs @ 2GB DDR2 PC6400 in Asus P5VDC-MX Motherboard. please advice. Thank you

Number of Memory Slots: 2×184pin + 2×240pin
Memory Standard: DDR 400/DDR2 533
Maximum Memory Supported:2GB

PC6400(DDR2 800) is not supported by your motherboard. Also max memory is 2GB. PC4200 is the fastest memory you can install. There might be a BIOS update available from ASUS website to increase the speed but you would have to check the site.

Is their a special make of memory card, ie: ddr

According to: http://www.shopping.com/xPF-VIA-MB-FOXCONN-VIA-KM400A-400M01-G-6L-R

this motherboard has 2 slots for DDR (184pin) RAM,
and supports a maximum of 1GB of RAM per slot.

Note that DDR RAM comes in 3 speeds: DDR266 (slowest), DDR333, and DDR400 (fastest).

Buy the fastest RAM -- if the motherboard cannot run the RAM at "full" speed, the RAM will automatically slow itself down to a speed that the motherboard will support.

Memory upgarade

Yes, it will work. Remember that all memory will operate at the speed of the slowest memory though so unless you're completely replacing the memory it won't increase the speed of the memory.

Not upgrading 1gb ram to asus p5vdc-mx

yeap its the wrong memory.
max mem is 2GB DDR2 533/400 non-ECC, 2 x 184-pin DIMM

or you can use. 2GB DDR 400/333/266 non-ECC,
Note, you cant use both DDR2 and DDR in the same time. so set both memory stick as same type.
so if you set 2x1GB DDR2 533 you get the optimized speed.
hope it helps.

Memory Issues with P5GL - MX

Some motherboards require that you install the memory in matched pairs. That could explain why they won't work together.

When you put the 1 GB in alone, what slot did you put it in?
I would suggest the blue A1 slot (closest to the CPU).

It may be that you have a bad memory module.
You could try the Windows Memory Diagnostic:
