Go to http://www.dell.com/ and then the 'support' tab. Enter your product code noted on the bottom of the laptop, and then you will be able to select the service manual PDF file for download.
The PDF contains instructions for most parts replacement.

Noel, it's hard to get such pictures. Do this:

Get your new fan from a source or take the laptop in with you. They will know what type fan it is. Laptop fans can be near impossible to get; hey are different and make specific. Most people will replace it for you if they have it for little change. If you already have one, you will need to say what type of laptop it is. They all open different and fans are in different posotions.

When plugged in the unit starts to smell hot like an electical burn,

Turn it on turn it over and see if the fan is operating. If not power your lap top off and replace the fan. You may have to not use this computer until the fan is replaced it is advisable not to. The smell you have may be dust smell when it gets hot. Clean throughly and make sure that all the dust is out of your computer. Also recommended a lap fan also which goes underneath the laptop to assist with cooling.
Lap tops are very touchy and need to be kept cool at all times otherwise you will be purchasing a new lap top if you do not take care of the cleaning or the cooling or the fan not working or spinning slowly. Check all this out. Critical if you do not understand what I mean take your computer to a local shop for immediate care. I hope this assisted you. John

Hi,I have a Dell Latitude D600 which the temp are always at 85.5C(mobmeter,ig8kfan). The fan was running high all the time n the speed is just 600mhz instead of 1400mhz whatever i do.(Prime95,Dell Xp...

don't worry most laptops nowadays run hot. your CPU will shut itself down long before damage occurs. try elevating your laptop to promote air circulation or place it on a cooling mat.

Be careful if you set it on your lap, some people have had minor burns from laptops setting on their laps for prolonged periods.

My dell latitude d530 gets really hot after some time using it, and sometimes, the fan stops working

sounds like the fan may be failing. Things you can do:
  1. Clean the intake and exhaust vents with canned compressed air
  2. Replace the cooling fan
  3. Replace the heatsink and/or use heat transfer compound like Arctic Silver and ensure heatsink is not clogged with debris
