Question about NEC VT470 Multimedia Projector

NEC VT470 Blochy picture in some areas of the screen

Hi guys - I need your assistance, I am trying to work on one of these projectors for a business. The office manager claims that their staff replaced the bulb already and doesn't know if they cleaned the filter. The display shows fine except some blochy areas on the screen, I don't know how to describe it. It's looks like over saturated with color in these blochy areas of the display. This projector probably runs 9 hours a day for 5 days a week, minimum. I cleaned the outside lens, but when I look inside the lens when it's on, I see dots or something inside it. Does it need maintenance and cleaning inside the unit where the light is coming from? Let me know what the Gurus think, I appreciate your wisdom.

NEC vt470 projector suddenly not turning on

I'm with Greg on this, I've had both of those problems individually on different VT4xx's (having both a number of them and a working knowledge of screwdrivers, figured out what was up by process of elimination). Sometimes bulbs die early - if it's really early you might want to see if there was any warranty period remaining on it - and the power boards in these projectors do sometimes break down. They were built in an at-risk period for having troublesome power capacitors installed into them, for starters...

If you are e.g. at a school which has several of these projectors issued to individual teachers, organise to swap the bulbs over between both your units and see which, if either of them, still work afterwards. If theirs was originally working, and after the swap, both are dead, you've got a dead bulb AND something else wrong with the projector, POSSIBLY but not necessarily that PCB. If yours then works but theirs doesn't, it's the bulb. And if there's no change, then both bulbs are good but your projector is toast.

And if it turns out that it's a projector fault, unless either you or an in-house tech can investigate and do the fix either for free or very cheaply, it's probably not worth getting it repaired. These models are really quite old and under-spec these days, and you can replace the entire thing with a brand new model of similar specification - with a working bulb installed! - than it would cost you to buy a single replacement bulb for the NEC.

I have a NEC VT470 Projector. The power light is steady orange and the status light blinks red 6 times.

steady orange means projector in standby mode
red light 6 times is a lamp error.
either the lamp is old and wont start up or the ballast power pcb is not working.
can you hear the sparking of the high voltage trying to strike the lamp.
if you can then the lamp may be dodgy.
can you borrow one to test it out

I have an NEC VT470. The projector shut down after the lamp finished. When I replaced the lamp and pressed the start button, the projector does not come back on.

Some of the NEC units have a standby status when the lamplife has exceeded its safe limit, the unit I had needed the off button pressing for up to 20 seconds to reset the lamplife and allow the unit to be switched back on. There should be info for this in your manual.

Good luck

I have a multimedia projector NEC VT470 and is getting red picture.

If you are using the vga input connection please take a look at all the pins and make sure none are bent this could be the reason you are missing one of the primary colors. If not check your cable pins.

Nec vt470 lamp does not come on. replace lamp, when turned on status light turns red and get 3 beeps. lamp does not come on.

If you replaced the lamp already, chances are the ballast is defective. When you power on the projector with the power button you should see a flicker of light in the lens, or an electrical sound. If you don't you ballast is bad.

I am using a NEC data projector for the past 5 years. Recently I have problems in displaying a video(DVD)using directX/WindowsMediaPlayer or any other plugin. The video is displayed perfectly on the...

its a common problem of the video hardware in the laptop - it hasnt the ability to split the video "overlay" (often its decoded by something in the video chip, or at least a seperate bit of software and output seperate from the usual, slower windows & images data stream) off to the second screen & you just see the frame of the player.
if you set the external output to be the main/primary, or sometimes only active screen, it should work. you might also have a chance if you make it an extended desktop rather than a cloned one, then moving the player window entirely onto the projector's "screen"
