Question about Canon MultiPASS MP360 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

MP 360 won't print

I was having trouble printing black , appeared heads were clogged. Did a couple of cleanings using first alcohol then windex. Black quit altogether but could get a color print OK. Got a new print head and now cannot print either black or color. Even after head cleanings. There is ink in the print head well but not obvious on the paper side of the print head????

I have the same problem with a a recertified mp61. Called canon tech, went through 5 normal cleans, 3 deap cleans, still nothing printed. You can tell ink was being sucked in but the bottom of the head where ink comes out looks clean. Was rushed ordered a new print head. Went through the same cleaning steps, still nothing. I will have to call support again. There seems to be a serious flaw in some of these printers.

Not sure where you found the recommendation to use Windex on your print heads but chemicals should be avoided. It sounds like you have damaged so of the head elements and now they are leaking. There are specialized fluids for cleaning print heads or plain old water will dissolve ink as well. Too late for you however if the heads have been damaged they will need to be replaced.

Power purge the machine:

Hold down the menu key. While still holding the menu key, unplug the machine and plug it back in. Do not let go of the key until the machine reboots and the screen says "maintenence". Hit the following keys: 7, 6, 4,black start. The machine will then go into "power purge" or deep clean mode for about 5-7 minutes. When complete hit: 99 to get out of maintanence and reboot. Be sure to have extra ink cartidges on hand as it does use up a lot of ink but this process works the best every time when the printer wont print

Is your colour ink come out when you print nozzle? If yes, your printer head is alive. In this setuation you should push some alcohole cleaner through plustic seringe several time. If no, there is a trouble in your printer's main board. replace the main board or repair it by a repair man.
Thank you.

Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution Plus
Re: Epson printer problem

You will want to press the button that you use to change the ink cartridge (the 3rd button). Once the carriage is in the "cartridge change position" you can unplug the printer. Then you are ready to flush out the heads. Click here for cleaning instructions http://www.wesesweb.web1000.com/printhead.html

The instructions are fairly easy to follow. If you need the head cleaning solution click here .http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/kea0.html

Repairs: All Epson Stylus printers (except for the C64-C86, CX4600-CX6400 series) which don't print, or print choppy in black or color. For the other printers, as well as Canon BJCs, use the other repair kit.

Description:

  • This is the same chemical used by Epson in their service department
  • Easy to use, no disassembly required
  • Gently dissolves even the most stubborn clogs and restores output to dried out print nozzles and clogged printheads
  • In our testing on an Epson 600 that sat unused for several months, it 100% restored a head that had no output, with one application (Individual results may vary)
Note: This is not alcohol or Windex; it is an ink-specific solvent that has proven to be safe and effective for use on Epson printheads. Do not use alcohol or Windex, they will very likely ruin your printer.

Kit Includes:

  • 1 oz bottle Epson Stylus Head Cleaning Solution (enough to fix several printers)
  • 1 syringe applicator for dispensing solution
  • Simple directions for use
Price: $9.99 order form on link below

My black ink will not print. If I change the colour, it prints find. It is a new cartridge.

First you need to ensure that this is not a driver problem, by reinstalling drivers and testing the printer on a different computer.

Also ensure that ink cartridges are OK, try replacement inks.

If the problem is not a software problem, and the printer is recognised by computer, and the printout is coming as a blank or faded page, then you usually have a faulty or clogged printhead.

Try first performing print head cleaning procedure from printer tools, that may not fix the problem, but do the cleaning a couple of times, just in case.

If the print head is clogged, that can be fixed soaking the print head in isopropyl alcohol overnight.

If still no luck, then the printhead must be replaced, here is the part: Canon MULTI-PASS F-80 Print Head $61.00

Does not print black

Most likely you have no black cartridge installed or it is empty causing your printer to use the colour cartridge for black. But if your colour cartridge has 1 colour which is less full than the others it causes black to become greenish or sometimes reddish depending on which colour is less. A new cartridge or a black cartridge will solve the problem.

PIXMA MP780 - not printing black chararcters

All the people in this forum with a Canon ink printer not printing black, especially if you tried replacing the print head and still have the same problem.

Your purge unit/capping assembly is most likely clogged. This can be caused by using crappy ink cartridges and by not using the printer for exptemely long periods of time.

You will have to disassemble the printer. First open the lid so the print head moves into the centre of travel. Unplug the power cord. Remove the upper case (can be hard to do, usually they're snap-together).

Remove one screw on either side of the print engine and remove the engine from the lower case. Unplug the cables that go from the main board to the purge unit (the large black assembly covered with old ink, located on the right side of the printer where the head usually would stop after you've finished using the printer and shut it off).

Now you have to remove that black purge unit from the right side of the engine. Usually there are two screws holding it in place.

Give the unit a bath, carefully removing old ink from everything so the unit looks like new. (be sure to remove the one motor first or you will ruin the motor). Check the bottom and make sure the two small clear rubber tubes are not clogged with old ink. Clean the absorber off (the pad in the lower case) if it has ink piled into a small hill shape.

If the tubes look like they might be clogged, you'll have to find a way to clear them out. I can do it in my shop, but it's too in depth to explain.

Reassemble the printer, connect to a PC and do a few deep cleans and print out a test page. Problem solved.

Remember, if one colour is not working it's because the head is clogged. You will have to do multiple cleans to get it to work. If it still doesn't work, then either it's REALLY clogged or the purge unit is not working because it's clogged. If you buy a new print head, then the only thing left is the purge unit. Be brave and try the disassembly and cleaning, or take it to your local service shop.

We charge $45 CDN for a job like this.

Rule of thumb: If you can get it fixed at a shop for 1/2 prince of a new unit, go for it.
