Question about RCA F36674ET 36" TV
"TV Turns Itself Off.
What would I have to do to fix this problem?
I was watching tv the other night and it turned it self off. when i tries to turn it back on, it cliked on then click right back of three times and then stayed off. I unpluged and tried it again with the same results. Help!!!!"
I have this exact problem. However, trying to turn it on enough times, now all I hear is a chirping that is indicitive of the power circuitry, so I'm guessing FBT failure. I inherited the TV when it had a similar flyback problem and was also chirping. I swapped out the flyback and the suggested resistors and caps (R14704, C14710, and a few others) as well as the horizontal output transistor. TV worked great for about 5-6 months. What could have caused this new FBT to fail? Is there some greater problem I might have that will cause a new FBT to fail again? I'm hesitant to invest in the repair if it's going to just happen again.
I'm going to ignore the last paragraph of this posting - it's so cluttered that I was seriously considering not answering at all...
Whoever it is installed a HOT and half of a flyback kit and now finds themselves wondering why... duh.....
This unit is a CTC197 chassis. The MOST common failure on this unit is the FBT and HOT and if either fails test the other rigorously.. The FBT is p/n# 237506 and RCA special notes indicate to also replace C14710 & R14704. In fact if you order the FBT factory direct they will also send you the cap and resistor without requesting it..
It is not uncommon to also find ring-cracks on the board through-out the unit. Especially on and near Ic components within any given circuit like the vertical, regulator, audio etc. Always check these areas to avoid further problems or failures.
If you have isolated the problem as a HOT failure and FBT rings good strongly suspect the regulator U14701, p/n# 236646. You should easily be able to determine its failure by measuring pin 6 for 12v and pin 7 for 5v.. If either missing or even slightly low replace the regulator. Also check Cr14402, Q14802.
