Question about Archos 605 WiFi Digital Media Player
Every time i upload pictures or have movies that are the proper format they dont seem to work. Whenever i try to open a movie file it says "cannot play"
and when i try to open a picture file nothing happens!
I investigated by going through my file directory and looking to see if the problem started here, i tried looking at the info and tryed opening them there, same problem except it gives me the error: "cannot play file! File is corrupted."
If anyone has had or has a similar problem like this please i would appreciate your feedback.
I had that problem with music files. Said corrupt file whenever I played in shuffle/all mode. I fixed it very simply. Here's how.
On your screen (not computer, just your 605), open Menu, then hit Settings. At the bottom is System. Open that. When you do, you'll see your system info. There's a button that says "Update ARC Library." Hit it. It will take a few seconds, but you'll see everything new you've loaded being updated quickly. After I did that, I had no more problems. Hope it helps on your music, and also any other problems. paul4laffs

Here is a general and easy fix for this...in my own case neither video nor picture files would display at all(wouldn't even attempt it)-immediate error msg to the tone of "cannot play" "file is corrupt"....
turns out the archos just needed to be rebooted...you can do this by going to settings on main screen...then select power...now press "device complete power off" and it will shutdown(e.g. NOT suspend mode as is normal)...give it a couple seconds once off...turn it back on and when it boots up it should be ok again.
Other than this you're most likely looking at a problem with the drive itself, which is bad, because from my personal experience the archos rma process royally sucks.
(you will generally receive a refurb unit rather than your unit repaired, which is fine except that EVERYTHING about the archos is linked to the product key and serial of your unit so if these change, which they DO if you receive a refurb, literally nothing you have for the archos will work properly anymore, including the dock...a month later I am still in the process of getting archos to fix all the problems associated with this simply because they don't apparently update their records when they replace your unit...or when you have to call them the first three times...lovely!)

Wow, I came here with the same problem three hours ago. I couldn't even connect to my Wifi at home.
I actually had the machine running for over 36 hours, plugged into a wall jack, when it finally freaked out like that.
I decided that I should just let the beast cool off, I gave it a couple of hours, unplugged, and when I tried it a couple of minutes ago it worked like a charm.
I don't know how long it takes for this sort of "over heat" to happen, but the cool down worked like a charm.

Connect it to your computer in hard drive mode
go to My Computer
Right click on "A605"
Select the "Tools" tab
Click "Check Now"
put a check in both boxes, click start
no go find something to do for THREE hours
running a defrag (also in the tools tab) may not be a bad idea afterward.
