Cannot play file! File is corrupted.

Every time i upload pictures or have movies that are the proper format they dont seem to work. Whenever i try to open a movie file it says "cannot play"
and when i try to open a picture file nothing happens!

I investigated by going through my file directory and looking to see if the problem started here, i tried looking at the info and tryed opening them there, same problem except it gives me the error: "cannot play file! File is corrupted."

If anyone has had or has a similar problem like this please i would appreciate your feedback.

I get the same message when I click on links to video clips on my web page. The clips play without any problem when I click on the file directly.

I had that problem with music files. Said corrupt file whenever I played in shuffle/all mode. I fixed it very simply. Here's how.
On your screen (not computer, just your 605), open Menu, then hit Settings. At the bottom is System. Open that. When you do, you'll see your system info. There's a button that says "Update ARC Library." Hit it. It will take a few seconds, but you'll see everything new you've loaded being updated quickly. After I did that, I had no more problems. Hope it helps on your music, and also any other problems. paul4laffs

Here is a general and easy fix for my own case neither video nor picture files would display at all(wouldn't even attempt it)-immediate error msg to the tone of "cannot play" "file is corrupt"....
turns out the archos just needed to be can do this by going to settings on main screen...then select press "device complete power off" and it will shutdown(e.g. NOT suspend mode as is normal)...give it a couple seconds once off...turn it back on and when it boots up it should be ok again.
Other than this you're most likely looking at a problem with the drive itself, which is bad, because from my personal experience the archos rma process royally sucks.
(you will generally receive a refurb unit rather than your unit repaired, which is fine except that EVERYTHING about the archos is linked to the product key and serial of your unit so if these change, which they DO if you receive a refurb, literally nothing you have for the archos will work properly anymore, including the dock...a month later I am still in the process of getting archos to fix all the problems associated with this simply because they don't apparently update their records when they replace your unit...or when you have to call them the first three times...lovely!)

Wow, I came here with the same problem three hours ago. I couldn't even connect to my Wifi at home.
I actually had the machine running for over 36 hours, plugged into a wall jack, when it finally freaked out like that.
I decided that I should just let the beast cool off, I gave it a couple of hours, unplugged, and when I tried it a couple of minutes ago it worked like a charm.

I don't know how long it takes for this sort of "over heat" to happen, but the cool down worked like a charm.

Connect it to your computer in hard drive mode
go to My Computer
Right click on "A605"
Select "Properties"
Select the "Tools" tab
Click "Check Now"
put a check in both boxes, click start
no go find something to do for THREE hours

running a defrag (also in the tools tab) may not be a bad idea afterward.

I hooked my tablet to my tv usb after downloading some movies some will play some not

Did you download in tablet or computer? Are those movies olayable on computer? If they play on computer it would mean that your tv cannot handle certain codecs or formats and you need to re-convert those movies to format understandable by tv. If they dont play on computer then either file is corrupted or you downloaded "fake" movie

Cannot see pc MOV or JPG files on flash drive in Canon SX230

Thanks very much for responding to my problem.
It seems Canon will not allow edited pictures or video to transfer from PC to their digital cameras for viewing.
steps to my problem:1. my canon SX230 created all the parts for my WMV video in MOV format originally.
2. created a movie (WMV format) in Windows Live Movie Maker. Works well and plays on my PC (windows 7).
3. after WMV completed - converted to HD MOV format in 2 different file convert programs and with 2 different HD MOV resolution settings on Both programs. WMV resolution is 1920x1080 (HD). ALL 4 MOV videos play well on my PC in 2 different programs.

Steps getting Canon to see video in playback mode.1. copy MOV video from PC to Flash drive in my card reader in same folder as my original JPG & MOV files, then inserted into camera - does not recognize file.
2. copy MOV file from PC to camera with USB cable. Windows error message. Wrong format - would not copy.
3. Formatted flash drive in camera. Took picture to create DCIM folder, JPG image, and CANONMSC folder with M0104.CTG file .Deleted CANONMSC folder. Copied my MOV video from PC to camera (USB cable). this time copy successful. However camera does nor recognize file.
5. tried again except deleted M0104.CTG file but not the CANONMSC folder. no luck.
It seems Canon will not recognize any file that has not originated in the camera AND has not been altered. Upon researching answers on the NET - many other users of Canon cameras have the same problem with no luck.

I try to add music to my picture movie through windows movie maker but each time error:0x87160129 keeps popping will play but without music. Please help.

Program requirements before music, videos are displayed together on a computer
1. A music editing software separaly installed on the computer
a. the music files would be extracted from disk mediums by music editor software.
b. a versatile music editor software would provide format conversions
c. a music editor software that makes possible clip extractions to be integrated onto another program

2. A movie editing software separately installed on the computer.
a. a software that recognise verious file format in music and videos
b. a versatile video editor software would intergrate music from another software

Important notes
1. Music file formats are selected compartible to the video editor software on which to be integrated
2. Files have to be edited and stored at a separate computer folder like my documents, my briefcase, or personal file folder

Initial diagnostic checks
1. The music file is in an incompartible format, performing a file format convertion should resolve such an issue
a. software multimedia converters are acquirable to be installed separately
2. the music file is corrupted, selecting another would resolve the issue
3. performing the video creation precess altogether would fix any error. Discard the video created, and rebuild a new compilation of music and videos.
a. notice any file errors requiring fixing

Format external memory

the problem can be solved. For the video not to be able to play might be due to the video file being corrupted or the memory card was not really formatted properly.

You can format the memory card again and try transferring the file into the memory card.If it does not work, try and use another device to format it.

If still it does not respond properly, then the memory card is corrupted and it needs to be replaced.

Have a nice day.
