42HP66 - Cracked the Glass plasma screen

I was moving my Toshiba 42HP66 plasma tv into my office and I had it laying flat on the floor temporarily with the screen facing straight up while I moved some other things off of the tv stand it was to go on. I accidently bumped a lamp off of my desk and it feel right on top of the plasma screen scratching the plastic screen and cracking the glass underneath the plastic screen. Is my plasma now worthless or is there a way to get this fixed at a reasonable price? If the repair cost $700 or $800 or more I don't think I should even bother.

Sorry to be the one to tell you but your tv is nothing more than a paperweight at this point. The panel would need to be replaced part number is 72784162 and I could not find anyone selling it for less than 2000 dollars. Since I know the tv is about 1500 or so on the shelf you are looking at just replacing it.

It is worthless. The glass itself is the sealed plasma display unit. once it is cracked it will not work correctly. The most expensive part of the set.

MY SCREEN INSIDE THE TV APPEARS TO BE CRACKED WHEN YOU TURN THE TV ON. IS IT FEASIBLE AND COST EFFICIENT TO REPAIR

It may look like it is cracked but it isn't. A plasma panel can't function if cracked as it would evacuate the gases contained in the panel. What you are seeing is most likely delamination of the screen. This sometimes happens on its own but usually occurs when the TV is moved or stored incorrectly. The elements of the panel actually detach themselves from each other and the bonding between them is what you see. This is assuming the glass screen on the outside portion of the panel hasn't been cracked.

No picture on my Toshiba 42HP66 plasma tv.

I too have this problem with no help from hh Gregg, where I bought the tv, and no help from Toshiba. I resorted to calling the BBB and complaining about the defective workmanship. I took the tv, which is less than 2 years old, apart and found the y-sus board, behind the y-sus board is a foam rubber spacer to seperate the circut board from the backside of the screen. I think this pad is designed to prevent heat buildup in the y-sus board. The pad itself is held on by glue and that glue melted causing the y-sus board to short out. I noticed this after finding a tacky substance behind the board. The heat from the plasma screen melted this and also the pad itself. Toshiba claims no resposibility because the tv was out of warranty. Thanks Toshiba.

Toshiba 42HP66, HDMI problems

Your Cable box might need to be reprogrammed. Call the cable company and they will drive you thru the steps to program it, this way you will get the channels. This process might take you 30-45 minutes.
