Question about RCA DCW615R Wireless/Cable Modem

1 Answer

RCA DCW615R Wireless/Cable Modem has problems loading some websites.

Dear, FixYa;

I got my mother a RCA wireless modem and it ran great after I got the cable company to configure it etc. But after two weeks now she's starting to have problems loading certain websites, or after it has been on for a while, it will not load up any websites other than her start page and a few regular sites that she normally goes to, but if she tries to go to a new website it will jump to a weather website that never loads up, then it will go blank. Do you know how to fix this problem. I at first thought she had a virus, but I used Norden antivirus to clean it and it found a few and clean them up, but she is still having this problem.

This was helpful. However, since then we have another problem.

Now she can't surf at all, and it does not show her assigned IP address. IT shows the IP and the subnet address.

I tried the turn it off and on power down thing today again like before
but it did not work this time. IT's strange npw that the USB and the
Wireless link are both blinking at the same time. I wonder if I should
as Charter to reconfigure the modem.

Your could try power cycling it, thats what works for me, i think it has been running for too long, thats why her internet connection loads up pages slower than before, and as for the weather websites, i am confused by that as well. but, here is how you power cycle:

1.) unplug your modem.
2.) wait about 1 minute.
3.) plug everything back in and wait about 1 minute.
4.) test out any website, and if still doesnt work, check all of the wires pluged into it, and unscrew the cable wire, and rescrew it back in slowly.
5.) and when all of this still doesn't work, then contact your internet service provider, because chances are, its something wrong with that modem, or your internet service provider.

> where do I get that from

You ask your cable-modem company, if you acquired the cable-modem from them.

Or, if you purchased the cable-modem, then the ID/password were included in the packaging.

Hi,
Yes you certainly need a cable connection before you can use the wireless capabilities of the cable modem.
Without a cable connection the modem is useless.

How do I lock my RCA DCW615R router?

You Router supports either WEP or WPA Security. First thing to do is enable the security, it will become difficult to enter from other users.
IF your using a default gateway (192.168.x.x) which is your Router Address. You can enter by Internet Explorer to go inside the Firmware of your Router (http://192.168.0.1) then enter.

This is an example of firmware worksheet:

The Rca DCW615R

You didn't say who your cable internet provider is, and many (or most, including Comcast) such providers require that the cable modem's MAC address be registered with their network. It's a security feature to prevent unauthorized (read: unpaid) users to access their network. The MAC address is usually found on a sticker at the bottom or rear of your modem. Write it down, then call your cable company's tech support the register it. It should work just fine after that.

You can have comcast allow you to log in using the new firmware at 192.168.0.1. You will need the user name and password from them. This will alow you into the firmware so you can change settings, including the PCMCIA card.
