Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Hello! I've been using my Compaq Presario (M2223AP) Laptop for 2 years now, then all of a sudden I saw 2 vertical lines on the screen. 1 line is a clear red line (but not so thick & dark) located about 1/3 from the left of the screen while the other is a very faint (thin, almost transparent) line located about 1/5 from the right of the screen. I think it might be a monitor problem. I'm not very good in fixing computers so I have not done anything about it yet. I'd appreciate your help very much. Thanks! Hi - I actually have a Dell Inspirion 9300 (only option was 9400 but I assume they are similar. It's a 17" screen. A month ago I had 1 think vertical line, now I have 9 very fine, pastel colored lines. If I knew it wasn't going to get worse, I could live with it. However, every week one or two more lines pop up. I tihnk my screen is going and I was quoted $400 to fix. Or to go buy a monitor for my laptop. How much is the going rate and will the screen need to be replaced?

    I also have a Dell Inspirion 9300 It's a 17" screen. A couple of weeks ago I had 1 thin blue
vertical line, now I have 5 very fine, pastel colored lines. If every week
one or two more lines pop up in a coulpe of weeks I won't be able to use the computer. Has anyone found a real cause or fix, not just buy a seperate monitor to use.

I have 2 green lines, i red line, a purple line, and a blue line going down my screen and i took it 2 best buy and asked geek squad if it was going to crash on me in the next 4 months becuase i need it for school and he said no, but you will eventually have to get it fixed. he says that there is a wiring out of place of just a little glitch in the screen. if you move your screen back and forth and the lines will go away and come back then its just a glitch, but if htey stay you may want to check it out with tech support or something

Many times over years of use the thin canle that connects motherboard to monitor becomes loose very slightly but enough to create these type effects on screen.First easy test would simply be hooking up another monitor to rule out video card.Next would be looking up how to disassemble the plastic trim to expose the lcd cable then carefully disconnecting it then reseating it.If problem still exists wiggle the lcd cable see if it affects lines on lcd display if so then you probably need new cable if not then most likely an lcd screen.
Screens can usually be replaced in about 45 minutes by avg.person.

Try doing the PSA test by(system should be off) holding down FN key then pressing the power button to turn on computer. If the lines still appear on the PSA test, replace screen.

Take it to best buy or a tech support person and they wi tell you you need to get it checked out and it will take 2 weeks to replace the screen and they will do a test to see if the lines still stay there when you move the screen up and down and if they stay then they know you will have to do something fast but i needed my comp for school so i decided to wait 4 months until summer and the guy ssaid thats perfectly fine it wont crash or anything

Have you tried hooking it up to an external monitor?
This would ensure that it's the screen and not the video card..
If you do that and you receive a good picture then it could be something as simple as a loose video cable. Or it could also mean something like a bad video card or the expensive one, a bad screen.

if this line is there during boot up then it is a monitor problem usually. but if it is not then it is a problem with your windows files. you could try reinstalling your windows from the disks you were given with it? otherwise i will look into it. email me if you need more help. milliprowd21@yahoo.co.uk

My understanding is that you have 2 laptops with the same problem, if that is the case, you need to replace the lcd. When you have lines on lcd's, that is a sign of a bad lcd.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

There can be 3 possible reasons for this
1)Screen connector cable is loose. You can try to re-seat it and see if works.
2)display card problem. Connect your laptop to an external monitor and see if the problem persists. If it does not then
3)You will need to get a replacement LCD screen.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
what i recommend you to test is to press behind your monitor and see that the line goes off or not.If it does..that mean you have a loose connection,it can be fix.Incase no then you have problem with your LCD.Normally if its LCD problem then you fix this problem, all you have to do is change the LCD.
goodluck,takecare.
