Question about Xerox Phaser 8560DN Laser Printer

1 Answer

Solid ink runs out

I have purchased 3 sets of solid ink cartridges in the past six months.. I barely get to pring 100 pages when I get the message that I need to get more solid color cartridges. I never turn the printer off but I still have to buy too much solid ink to justify continuing to use this printer. Any help?

That was the first think I was going to suggest was not shutting it off or restarting the machine. Make sure the power save is off on the machine.
The only way I can tell you to resolve the cost is to go on a cost per page maintenance agreement. That way you pay a certain affordible cost per page and they supply the ink.
About the only way to get around the solid ink cost .

If you are buying genuine cartridges, check the print settings, you may have it set to high resolution and for the wrong media type.

Genuine HP cartridges are fully filled, compatibles sometimes are not. 100 pages of plain text is ludicrous. I would refer this to Amazon and ask for a refund.

The only other problem may be with a leaking seal, but i would have thought that this would be apparent by now, as ink would have leaked visibly

Tip

Ciss and refillable cartridge systems

Depending on printer brand and model, there are lots of ciss (continuous ink supply system) solutions to buy.<br /><br />Bare in mind, though, if you are planning to use printer heavily, there are other considerations you should think about:<br /><br />1. If not used regularly, an air bubble may occur and it takes a while to pop it up. Also ink may dry in certain area and it's a mess to resolve.<br /> <br />2. The ink supply (depending on supplier) may not be good as the original; color depth and durability wise.<br /><br />3. Cartridge recognition problems may occur from time to another, so it must be removed and inserted again.<br /><br />4. CISS system usually have a chip to fool the printer and it may fail with any liquid contact.<br /><br />5. ink pad inside printer fills quickly on heavy use, thus its wise to direct the pipe into an external tank (found inside and in the back of printer for Epsons) <br /><br />In conclusion, if you intend to have more than 100 pages/month, consider compatibles or refillable cartridges. ciss is good for +200 pages/month.<br /><br />e.g. (epson rx685 blanks out all 6 cartridges except for the black after 10x15 photo's in with high quality enabled)<br /><br /><span style="font-style: italic;">Please note that these tips are based on experience with 4-6 cartridge systems for Canon and Epson printers.</span><br /><br /><br />If you find this informative, kindly <span style="font-weight: bold;">vote positively</span> for me to continue sharing. Good luck and thanks.

I haven't used my HP design jet 100 plus for a year. What do I need to do to enable the ink to flow for printing? Should the print heads be cleaned?

It's always good to do the machines automatic cleaning, and also manually cleaning the printheads with a damp lint free cloth. However, regarding the ink cartridges, you're better off just buying new ink since ink cartridges usually last just for six months.
And since it's been a year already it's close to impossible if you're gonna try to calibrate the cartridges still.

I have gone through $100 in ink this month alone for my Lexmark 705 Pro Prevail. It prints like 20 word doc pages (not photos) and then it says it is empty again, and the cartridges need constant...

Hi there,

Check the settings of your printer, either in the software that came with it or the printing preferences in the Control Panel. If your ink tone is set too dark, it could be using a lot of ink. If this is not the case, then:

1) Clean the ink cartridges
2) Replace the ink cartridges as they may have expired. 3) Replace the printer and find one which uses cartridges that can perform more copies in a single fill.

How to replace the ink cartridge

1. Look at the indicator light on your Lexmark printer. You'll need to replace ink cartridges when the light flashes or turns red instead of the standard green.

2. Purchase Lexmark ink cartridges. You can buy the brand name or purchase a generic version that is compatible with your printer. You can shop for low cost ink cartridges from ABC Ink.

3. Remove the old cartridges from your printer. Grip the sides of the Lexmark ink cartridges and pull it out. Dispose of the ink cartridges in a recycle program like the one at Staples or save the cartridges for refill.

4. Install the new ink cartridges after removing the protective tabs. Avoid touching the IC chip when installing the new Lexmark ink cartridges. Replace the cover of the printer.

5. Allow the Lexmark printer to run a nozzle test. Print several pages with the new ink cartridges to make sure you installed the ink cartridges correctly. The indicator light should return to a solid green color.

do rate the solution if it helps

Printer not printing photos with all colors

  1. Lift the printer access door, then remove the ink cartridges from the printhead.
  2. Verify that the label on the ink cartridges is intact, and that the cartridges are not damaged.
  3. Verify that the KODAK Ink Cartridges have not been refilled.
  4. Insert the ink cartridges into the printhead, then press down firmly until you hear them click into position.
  5. Close the printer access door.
  6. Check the printer status monitor on your computer (or the LCD screen on the printer) to determine if there is sufficient ink available for your print job.
  7. NOTE: Once the "Black ink cartridge is low" or "Color ink cartridge is low" message is displayed, print quality can be affected.
  8. Reprint the picture or document that had the quality problem
If still same quality then...
  1. Load inkjet paper into the paper tray.
  2. On the control panel, press Menu.
  3. Select Calibrate Printer.

If no then:

HP printers - remove and check cartridge. (Use it or lose it)

There is no solution for HP Printers being used very lightly - meaning "not for months" etc.

As a result, if you are stuck in this predicament - an HP inkjet, that you only need every few months - I instead suggest you set a calendar entry for once a week or more and run a test page.

The printer will "hopefully" not dry out by being periodically used - and the ink "wasted" will result in a LONGER cartridge life than if you had to throw out a cartridge.

There is also a time period, or sensing of the cartridge, that results in a wasteful cleaning cycle in which it pumps ink "down the drain", and I'd like to know how often to test print to avoid that.

My solution to my most recent problem was to "give up" and throw a new (black) cartridge on it and take the barely-used one out.

Printer Always Indicates Ink is Low or Cartridge is Incorrect

To get rid of the low ink warnings google the specific error message with 'ink refill' and look for 'engineers reset' or similar ..

NB. Dell printers (re-badged Lexmarks) are notorious for ink usage and high costs .. so my best recommendation would be to throw it away and purchase something else ..
