My Sony KV-34HS510 Tv will not turn on

My 3 year old Sony KV-34HS510 will not turn on. Little red light blinks. What is wrong? What do I look for? Can I buy a part to fix it?

If I unplug it, then replug it, I can hear the tube energise, then some relay clicks. When I press the power button, more clicks, then nothing except a red blinking light.

Thanks in advance.

Ok, the blink code is 6. Can I buy the replacement board?

  • slackkeymike Feb 13, 2008

Hmm,,, I have read a bunch about 6 blinks and two chips on the D card. Why the disparity in response?

  • slackkeymike Feb 18, 2008

None of these "solutions" was very helpful. Folks over at AVSforum had the right solution and encouraged me to try it. It worked. It turned out to be 2 ICs on the D board. I removed them, added 18 pin sockets, reinserted the new ICs (both of them are the same) and it powered up just fine.

I would add that it was a technical task, one not suited for everyone... but if you can handle a soldering iron, desoldering braid, etc, you can prolly do it.

    Thank you.

Look, spending $300-$400 is not worth it. Thus it is NOT going to a repair shop. It sounds like you know what to replace, but for some reason you are not telling me. If you replaced the chips and it failed again, then there must be another part causing the problem that you finally located and fixed. Please tell me the solution (other than repair center). What parts did you replace? I am more than capable of doing this. Yes, I say in your post IC504. What board? And, what other parts?

Well, I have changed my mind. It appears that this site is designed (which is OK) to get money for an answer. Should have figured that out before I tried to get an answer.

Fortunately, other sites exist to give real help...just for the asking.

  • slackkeymike Feb 20, 2008

Great. Now I'm getting yelled at be a tv repairman.

If you are too busy to post a useful solution, then why post at all? Marked inappropriate because I don't need to be "yelled" at or patronized. But thank you (finally) for something of value.

So, YOU listen up. What you did not seem to follow from me is that it is NOT worth spending $300-$400 to fix. The TV is not worth it. So a cheap, perhaps temporary fix is AOK by me. Even if I have to do it again. Others on this site suggested the fix. As well as AVS forum, etc.

I thought this site was meant to help DIYers like me get to a solution. Guess that not in your best interests.

    Thank you.

And so does mine!! (little thanks to you with your "take it to a repair center" push. And if it fails, I will buy a new one.

When I power on my Sony KV-34HS510 it sounds like it is coming on but i get no picture and the red light flashes 6 or 7 times then powers off again.I really hate to trash this television.

TV won't turn on today. Turned on yesterday after not turning on the day before yesterday. Now that I've turned the tv off it won't cut back on. I do hear a sound as if the tv is going to cut back on but it doesn't.

Sounds like a power supply problem. The TV is failing its POST (power on self test) and tripping a relay to protect itself. Time for a service call :-(

Listen up Mike, i'm not going to explain this again. Just because you can melt solder with a hot iron doesn't make you an electronic technician. There are steps that have to be taken in order to resolve your problem. Voltage readings, signal readings, and wave form readings that can only be done using a probe from an ocilliscope machine. These findings and ONLY these findings are going to aide you in your quest for the repair of your sony TV. Without them you will never fix your set. Oh, sure you can take the easy and most expensive route and replace boards that the problem may or may not be coming from. And if you go back and read my notes that I've written back to you you will see in plain black and white that I do give you the board letters that might have to be replaced. And yes, Sony gives their boards letters to distinguish them from one another. And if i didn't get back to you sooner i'm sorry, I do this for a living all day everyday so don't cry about not getting FREE information back to you in a reasonable amount of time.

P.S. -

Dead and the timer LED flashes 6 times.
Component failures causing this error could be:

1. Found that the a defective Flyback T8001 caused Q8013 and Q8014 to short out and
R8051 opens up.

2. B Board was loading down the 5v line.

3. Video Output shorted causing over current demand on FBT.

4. The TV shutdown and the LED flashers 6 times, 200 volt line comes up.
Found C6590 on the D Board was faulty.
C6590 P/N 113194011, 1200pf 250v.

5. Dead / stby light flashes 6x or 7x
Found a open C8032 on IC8002/pin 3 on the D board.

Because, I actually have repaired a few dozen of these TVs and Believe me when I tell you that there is always something new found wrong for the same problematic symptoms.

The blinking 6 times error code means Low B+ (OCP/OVP) over current protect/over voltage protect. The +5 volt line could be overloaded or shorted or IC504 could be faulty. Three possible boards that these problems could be on. The A, B, or M boards. I suggest taking it to a Sony authorized service center if you're unsure of what to do.

Sony Wega KV-34HS510 standby blinks 7 times in red

Hi and welcome to the site,

Initially, the Sony KV-34HS510 uses the DA-4 Chassis. On this chassis, 7 blinks refers to the fault "Horizontal Deflection Stopped" indicating a problem with the horizontal section. Offhand, check, replace the HOut transistor and have the FBT (flyback transformer) ring tested.

Good luck and thank you for asking.
