Question about D-Link AirPlus DI-524 Wireless Router

DI-524 connection problem

I have 3 computers, 2 desktop computers (one with the router and modem connected to it, and another with a D-Link wireless adapter in its usb port) and a laptop with a wireless adapter.

The internet works fine with the desktop with everything connected to it and the laptop; however, the desktop computer with the wireless adapter is connected, but always with limited or no connectivity. When i try to repair the connection, it always says "could not finish the following actions: Renewing your IP address." I have windows XP btw. Could someone propose a solution b/c i have no idea where the problem lies (pc problem, router problem, wireless adapter problem, modem problem???)

I have hooked my di 524 from my DSL cable modem then hooked the two in line to my computer when I hooked up to the computer I have no connectivity why?

OK, if I understand:
telephone----DSL Modem--di 524--computer.
That is what you are supposed to do.
Has any configuration of these devices ever had any connectivity?
1. Is the DSL modem in "Bridge Mode"? That is the first thing I'd check.
2. Are you using the right wires and ports? There may be a DCE-DTE problem. Be sure you have used the wire that came with the DSL modem to hook it to the internet port on the DI-524.
3. What is the state of all the various lights? Do they show that you have valid connections?
4. Most of these devices can be configured with a browser. When you browse them, what do you see?
5. What is windows telling you?

If your Broadband modem is only with w/USB connection you have to change modem/router, you won't connect it with usb to di-524.

Connecting Laptop wireless and Desktop wired to the router

Do you need to see the desktop or just share folders from each other? If the latter then you need to do the following:

Use Windows Explorer and select a folder you want to share. Right click and select sharing and security.

On the sharing tab click on Share this folder. Enter a share name ( I like to enter the PC name _folder name; Rick1_Downloads)

Click on Permissions. If your ok with everyone using the PC's and Laptops having access then highlight Everyone and click on Full Control.

Do this on each PC and Laptop.

That should be it or darned near close.

Connect to wireless D-Link and Westell6100

I am assuming that you have a functional LAN cable connecting the Westell and the DI 524, right? If you are unsure, replace it with a cable you know is good.

If the 524 is turned on downstream of the Westell modem, it should find what it wants. You may try rebooting the Westell and seeing if the 524 finds it, and you maybe should reboot the 524.

Sometimes, when the world gets jiggered up I have to work pretty hard to get my DI-524 resync'd to my DSL modem.
