Before removing the agitator, how do I remove the plastic cap covering the agitator spindle? It is very tight and I don't want to force it. Does it unscrew or lift off. GE clothes washer, model # GWX6090, purchased 1994. Thanks

Yes remove the rinse cup from the center of the agitator under that you will see a plastic cap remove it in the center you will see a bolt then remove it after that you will be able to pull the agitator-when you put it back together you must make sure the plastic cap is properly seated all the way so no water can get in it put a little dish soap around it and make sure its seated fully

My Maytag Topload Bravo washer has the smell of bad well water, or stagnant water on occassion. (I have city water, btw.) Also, no matter what detergent I use or what cycle I wash, or what tempurature the...

I can't be sure without looking at the machine but I have had several of these type of machines the get cloths under the agitator "wash plate thing" in the bottom of the basket. This will eventually clog up the pump but stuff that hangs out in there can really get to smelling after a while. Try removing the wash plate and see if you see anything under there. In the future make sure you use a lingerie bag for all small items to prevent them from getting stuck under the wash plate.

My washer stinks

Hi, problem occurs due to cool washes(i.e. 40c and under) not destroying bacteria from clothing/detergent which then breeds inside your machine, therefore creating a sometimes sulpherous or musty smell.
I would advise you to regularly do a hot wash(minimun 60c) with an old towel, soda crystals and washing machine bleach i.e. vanish, ace etc with an old towel in the drum to move the mixture around. if you keep up with this the smell will eventually go away.
You can buy limescale/detergent removal powders which will do the same job.

How to clean Kenmore Oasis Washer. I cannot find my user guide.

Hello there:
please use these simple steps
What You Will Need
  • Lemon Juice, Lime Juice or Vinegar
  • Borax
  • Spray Cleaner
  • Paper Towels
  • Q-tips
  • Bucket
  • Vacuum with hose attachment
Important Safety Tip: Before attempting to clean your washing machine, it is important to UNPLUG YOUR MACHINE. NEVER attempt to clean your washing machine when it is still plugged in as you run the risk of electrocution!
Cleaning the Washing Machine:
  1. Start by using the spray cleaner and paper towels to wipe down the top, front, and sides of the washing machine. This step alone makes a big difference in the appearance of your machine.
  2. Next, we will work on cleaning out the inside of the machine.
  3. Spray some cleaner onto a couple of paper towels and use it to wipe down the underside of the lid, and under the lip of the washer.
  4. Now it’s time to clean the basin of the washer. Fortunately, the machine will do most of the work for you. You will need to run several cycles to get the machine completely clean.
  5. Begin by filling the washing machine using the hot water and largest load setting.
  6. Add 2 cups of lemon or lime juice if you have rust problems or 2 cups of vinegar for odor problems. If you have both problems, run a cycle of each.
  7. Allow the washing machine to run through a complete wash and rinse cycle.
  8. Fill the washer a second time with hot water on the largest load setting.
  9. Add 2 cups of bleach to the water. This will aid in stain removal.
  10. Allow the washing machine to run through a complete wash and rinse cycle.
  11. If all of the stains are removed, run an additional cycle without adding anything to the water. This will allow any remaining residue to be rinsed away thoroughly.
  12. Remove the bleach dispenser and fabric softener dispenser and soak them in a bucket of warm water.
  13. When they have soaked long enough to loosen most of the build-up, remove them from the water and lay them on a paper towel.
  14. Spray them with the spray cleaner and wipe away any dirt using the paper towels. Use Q-tips to remove dirt from corners and tight areas.
  15. Dry the dispensers and return them to their original places in the machine.
  16. Use the vacuum with the hose attachment to vacuum all around and under the washing machine. A large amount of dust tends to accumulate behind the washer and dryer, so take extra care in vacuuming all the dirt away, especially from cords and electrical outlet areas. This not only makes it cleaner, it helps to alleviate a possible fire hazard.
  17. This is a good time to check the hoses and make sure they are securely attached. If not, you may be mopping the floor soon too!
Additional Tips and Advice:
  • If you have stubborn stains on the inside of your machine, there are cleaning products designed for washing machines that are available at most hardware and home improvement stores.
  • If your clothes have picked up the odor from your machine, wash them with a cup of borax.
  • Front loading washers tend get a build-up over time that leads to unpleasant odors. There are natural cleaners available to remove the fungus and get rid of the odor. However, to keep it away, you may need to change your detergent and/or fabric softener.

Simpson washing machine leaves white marks on clothes . It isnt the filter as it was just purchased a couple of months ago. We are using recommended detergent as well

The transmission is leaking the grease out of it.
It comes in from in under the adgetator not spelled right. But that is where it is coming from.
If it is 5 years or more just get another one.

While sewing on towels, it helps to use a wash away stabalizer also on the top surface. Also, you may want to wash the towel first. this will soften the surface.

sounds as if the transmission agitator pawl is slipping. inside the transmission is a gear connected to the agitator. there is a spring loaded pawl that rotates around the center and engages its pawl or hook into the agitator gear for each rotation. either the pawl hook is worn or the agitator gear is rounded off. the transmission must be opened up to see what is a miss
