Hyper board is located directly behind the input board, this is where all the tv conections are, then they are two tabs soldered from the bottom of the board then it simply unplugs, But replacing all those capacitors on that board can be a little tricky, replace all 10up @16volt caps and that usaly repairs the board

My toshiba 57h81 starts with waves and after 4-5 minutes it is ok. What could be the fault and how much could it cost me?

This model uses a "HYPER" BOARD to process all signal from all inputs.

These sets have a history of tiny surface mounted capacitors on that board failing with age---they dry out inside.

Usually it will clear up as the caps get hot but over time it will take longer and longer to clear up.

The board is no longer available from Toshiba and the only way to fix is remove the board and send it out for rebuild---last one I did cost over 200 for the rebuild.

I have had a few on this site with this problem who were able to do the repair themselves, it involves getting the board out and real skill at soldering.

If this told you something you did not know, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

yes they are bad, they are surface mount on the digital board. Board replacement is advised. They are not easy to change if trying to replace the capacitors.

Kevin,
I'll send over the link for the manual to your personal addy but it won't be much help I'm afraid with identifying and removeing the hyper module. The hyper module in that unit is a square metal can standing vertical on the signal board just behind the jack panel - - leaft side looking into the back of the TV...
Screw driver and some real patience and it should be no problem to remove. From there send the module in and have it repaired and you'll be glad you did...

Toshiba 57H81 Image Problems

This is a common fail for a Toshiba 57H81 the cause most likley is caused by the Hyper board, there are several capacitors that have weakened and need to be replaced, these are surface mounted and have VERY Fragile contact points, if your soldering skills are week you might want to take this somwhere to have it fixed

Service manual, Toshiba 57H81

Send me your email address and I'll send you a Pando link to download the schematic... The caps you're looking to find are Cx261, Cx270, Cx230, Cx178, Cx221, Cx250, Cx670, Cx241, Cx541. You might also check C514 and C5030 all are 10uf\16v but be VERY careful not to screw-up the pads lifing the smd caps in that module. Bill premtech@willapabay.org

If you have zagged lines there are 10 small surface mounted capacitors you will need to change on the HYper Board. This is not an easy repair so alot of folks simply replace the hyper board. You will need a service manual to take this set apart and to get the proper part number. If you have no TV repair experience or do not know how to solder, as the hyper board has sheild arounfd it, you should play it safe and call out a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck
