Not sure, but if you can play back pictures from a card, then more than likely you have a CCD problem. It may not be the ccd directly, but maybe a connection to it.
Depending on the camera, Canon and Nikon will fix a limited number of models.
Search for service notice of ccd or service of ccd.
Here is only one for Canon models affected.

I have a Nikon coolpix s4 with the same problem

It is probably the "hood" whenever you shoot a "wide" shot. The black corner should not show up in telephoto pix..

Remove the hood when taking wide shots.
It is good to use a hood to avoid flares from the side, but that may be rare anyway...

ok?

Lens won't come out (Kodak EasyShare C613)

i have the exact same camera
you can hang it up and get ready to buy a new one because its not a do it yourself job and it would cost more to have it fixed than it would to buy another one just like it

My camera screen is black.

If the new pictures are all black, then the problem is not on the LCD display, but it is a faulty CCD sensor.

The CCD image sensor is the device that captures the picture .

CCD sensor is covered even after warranty, contact canon ringing the phone number listed on the owner manual.

Black screen when camera is turned on

hi.. I also had this problem with canon ixus 75. i took it to the service center and they just knocked its lens(lightly) when it was on ON mode, then suddenly the screen started working.
But he said that u should use it on regular basis for few days and if the problem occurs again. then we will have to change the sensor, I think he said sensor or something like that.

Black screen

OK, this might sound stupid, but I had the same problem with a similar camera and I had accidentally pushed the Display button. I was about to give my camera up for dead. Try pushing it (the little button on the bottom back that says Disp on it). Does that bring your image back? If not let me know and I'll research further.

The screen is black and won't take pictures

Many times when the screen is black, that means no signal is getting to the lcd from the ccd. Some cameras had a ccd problem, and may be fixed by the maker, for free. Nikons, Canons, Sony, and others have had this problem in the last few years. The ccd had internal problems and the same sensor was used in many point and shoot cameras. If you want to search this, search on the net for Service Advisory, or Service Notice. Some companies may have another way title this problem

Casio Exilim EX-S500 screen is black when turned on

you camera shutter is stuck at close position, you will need to open
the thing up to repair.

================================================

As for the totally dark screen, either your LCD or driver board is bad. You will need to open and replace the broken part.

Black screen

If you can play back images ok ( colour & resolution normal ) but in capture mode you have no image then the CCD sensor in your camera is faulty. Replace.
