never seen any radio work under all situations. even old mech dial/scales type..
i say , program the presets and drive. and push. looking and driving is no safe.
or buy a voice commanded radio.. now that is good.
Check your car battery. Try to turn off your headlights and aircon then look at your stereo if its bright, if it has bright light try to turn on your aircon and headlights then if the light of your stereo turns dim the problem is now on your car battery. The battery cannot supply all the electricity needs of your car.

There may not be enough power running to the display. What are you using for a power source? My suggestion is to wire your power to your ACC if you have not already. The other thing I can think of is the connection is bad. Make sure the terminals used to connect your stereo are all tight also.
