The problem is going to be with the video card its going to need replacing if the telly is still under warranty then it is covered as this is a common fault

  • paul proctor Feb 12, 2008

As the telly comes on then you know the fuse hasnt gone and you know that the telly is getting power but it cuts off just as its about to come on as their is a fault in the video card and this causes the telly to shut down as a safety feature to stop anything else from shorting ans possibly causing fire or shock to humans.
This repair isnt expensive and is worth getting done you might find that its just a resistor on the board located near the video card.
So if it is resistor this will be really cheap to fix and should only take couple of hours to do but dont attemp repair yourslef unless you know how to follow schematics and test points on the board you will also need multimeter and oscilscope as to locate exactly where the problem is

Just try this for me first unplug all external devices out of your telly ie dvd player cable or sky unplug anytthing connected to your telly then try switching on if it comes on then the fault will be with one of the other devices if problem still persists then the chances are its the video card or associated parts.
As for price a resistor will cost £3 or $6 depending where your from and about $30 to $40 or £15 to £30 for someone to replace but price depends on how long it takes to find the blown resistor as repair shops charge by the hour usually about £35 or $60 to $70 per hour.
Now the price of the video card can vary from about £40 to about £120 depending on model and about the same again to fit £40 roughly or $70 to $150 it all depends on make and model but you wouldnt be able to get a exact price without locating schematics and getting part number.
The problem with doing this repair yourself is you could replace the video card but might never solve the problem as if its a resistor you need to know where to test and also the kind of readings your going to get.
Hope you understand what im saying let me know if im confusing you ok
But the repair is worth doing as you will find you will get no more problems as these make of telly are good in terms of not having many problems ok let me know if you need any more help ill be glad to help ok just let me know

Flicking screen on Samsung UN60FH6003F, replaced main & power board and LSVD cable.

Check out the inverter board. It supplies the backlighting on screen so you see picture. If it is messed up it could be responsible for the flashing. Assuming you see a normal picture in between flashes!

I have recently bought a sony bravia model number KDL-40EX710. The input channel either keeps flicking to another input channel, ie AV1 to HDML or when on AV1 or AV2 the channel confirms itself at the top...

Your connections might be loose and the tv is constantly recognizing the connection over and over, that would explain the pop up. I would imagine the picture would be distorted somehow if that was the case but worth a try. If the problem persists after trying a good new cable then I would call the manufacture.

My plasma LG TV has a black display box in the top left corner of screen. No words or text in it, just a black box covering that coirner of do I get rid of it?

There should be a button on your TV remote that will be called "Display" or "P in P".
The display button usually displays which input you have selected, such as: SAT for Satellite; AV1, AV2, AV3 or AV4 - depending on how many inputs your TV has, to plug in devices like a VCR or DVD recorder/player.
Otherwise, if you have a more sophisticated TV, it could be that you have accidentally pressed the "P in P" button, that selects the Picture in Picture mode. If you have done this, your TV will display the main picture of the input you have selected, plus another input, (such as SAT or AV1 or AV2 etc. as I've mentioned above). If the AV1 or AV2, etc. input is not active (not switched on) then that input will only display a blank (black) picture in the top left corner of the screen.
Hope this helps...
