The video drum inside the tape mechanism consists of two sets of heads. One set for recording and one for playback. It's possible the playback heads are damaged, in which case the video drum will need to be replaced. It's also possible the video drum may simply be oxidized in and the camera only needs servicing and the drum deoxidized. I don't reccomend using "cleanning tapes" as they can sometimes do more harm thab good although you try. You might get lucky and this will solve your problem.
You need to download your movies with a Firewire cable, you must make sure your PC or Laptop has this socket, the marking near this socket on your computer has a 3 bladed windmill picture. Your cable will set you back about £10 at most good camera shops.
CCD-TRV58 is analog camcorder and can not be connected with computer directly as camcorder does not have USB or iLink/ DV ports. Computer needs digital format movie data to store / edit files. You need to hook camcorder audio-video out to DVD recorder and burn DVD of camcorder movie so you will get digital format of movie. Put that DVD in computer and copy files for further process.
Windows Movie Maker has a few features that are missing for it to complete the job, In fact Microsoft no longer supports the product. This is why it's not included in Vista. Nero makes software to do it as well as Pinnacle. I use Studio and it will walk you through the capture process, edit, menu creation, and burning to DVD.
Hi8 camera has analog video signal / format and needs to be converted in digital format for PC storage /use. Best option available is to hook up Hi8 camcorder with DVD recorder and burn movies on DVD. Now you have digital files of movies and can put in PC.
if you want to transfer from VHS or an analog camcorder you need a capture card or TV card (some mother borad and graphic card have this on board).but if you have a DV camcorder check this:
if your computer and camcorder have fire wire port (IEE1394) use it and otherwise use USB (low qualty).
for software I could suggest video studio, adobe primaire (full or element) windows movie maker, or any othe program which comes with you camcorder.
I hope this helps...
yes....BUT....You'll need your computer to convert first. Although this is the US version camorder that you purchased, the software that comes with the camcorder allows you to convert you recording from NTSC to PAL when your ready to produce your movie. You can do this by opening up Power Produce or Power Director(software that comes with you camcorder) on you computer transfering you movie(s), editing if you would like though you dont have to, then select produce movie. The options offer you what choices on what to create; file, dvd, youtube video, and so on. You'll also see an option to produce in NTSC (default) or PAL. This is the only way that your recordings can become compadable with and be shown IN color on you PAL devices. If this isnt done and you go srait to your PAL recorder with this camcorder, our movies will be shown in black and white and or a bit distorted with no sound.
