The manufacture recomends to upgrade the BIOS to version 1001 or later to fix the problem, is this an easy task or you recomend to send the system to an expert ??

P5k-e front pannel audio not working

Make sure you check that the front audio cable is connected properly on your motherboard. You can see how it's supposed to be hooked up and where it is located on page 2-32 in either of the manuals I have linked up for you below. And if you haven't already make sure you have the correct audio driver installed.

I have purchased an ASUS ASUS P5K SE Motherboard. I want to run a MDT RAM at 667 Mhz DDR2, is it possible as it says nothing in the asus website The ASUS P5K SE Motherboard Qualified Vendors List (QVL)...

"The Asus P5K SE Motherboard Qualified Vendors List (QVL) says that it only runs ram at 1066MHz and MDT is not on the list"

Really? I beg to differ.

The motherboard manual states,
" The chipset officially supports the memory frequency up to DDR2 800MHz. Tuned by the Asus Super Memspeed Technology, this motherboard natively supports up to DDR2 1066MHz."

1) Notice the 'Up To'.
Supports UP TO 800MHz, and with the SMT it supports UP TO 1066MegaHertz.

It will support DDR2 at 667MHz, 800MHz, and 1066MHz (With SMT)

The QVL doesn't encompass all ram memory that is available out there.

The Ram Memory used has to be;
A) Unbuffered
B) DRAM chips used cannot be any larger than 64MB

[DRAM chip.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Generic_DDR_Memory_%28Xytram%29.jpg

The Black rectangular chips, shown on the module of DDR Sdram example above, are DRAM chips.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DRAM

C) Should follow the JEDEC standard for DDR2 Sdram.
For one, it should follow the JEDEC standard for DDR2 voltage.

1.8 Volts.

Some high performance ram is set to use a slightly higher voltage. The Asus motherboard is set to use DDR2 at 1.8 Volts by default. (Factory settings=Default)

The MDT DDR2 at 667MHz is not high performance ram memory. It will be set to use 1.8 Volts.

Asus Support>Downloads,

http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

Up to the Left side of the page is the heading - Download, in white.
Under it is the - Input Model to Search, box.

Put your mouse cursor in the box, leave it there.
Left-click once.
Type - P5K SE

Go to the Select Category box below it, and left-click on the down arrow, on the right side of the box.

In the drop down list click on - Manual
Now click on - Search info, below it.

Left-click on the blue P5K SE to the left.

Choose the Operating System. Left-click on the down arrow on the right side of the box. I chose Windows XP in the drop down list..
It doesn't matter.

Left-click on Search below.

Now scroll the next page down to Version E3202
Left-click on Global (DLM)
In the security box that pops up, make sure you use capital letters for the letters shown.

Left-click on Submit.

It's a PDF file download. Make take up to 30 seconds before you see the first page. May also take time to fully download. Advise letting it download before looking through it.

I posted the link so that if you have a motherboard manual, and it does not have the information this one has, then you now have the official Asus version.

Ram Memory information starts on Page 37.
Page 40 shows the QVL for DDR2 at 800MHz.
Page 41 shows the QVL for DDR2 at 667MHz.

This QVL does not list MDT either.
It's okay, it will work. The MDT ram memory has SPD support.

[Serial Presense Detect

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_presence_detect

Maximum Total Amount of ram memory is 8GB. You better have an O/S that will recognize 8GB, however, to realize this.

Has to be a 64bit O/S. (Operating System)
Windows XP Home, and Pro that are 32bit versions, will only recognize 3.2 to 3.5GB of ram memory.

Maximum Amount for EACH ram slot is 2GB.

If you only install one ram memory module, make sure it is in Slot 1. (DIMM A1 on that motherboard. The ram memory slot that is closest to the Processor)

350 Watt PSU? Not planning on gaming I see.

Depends on what PSU you have (Power Supply Unit), but it could be old enough to be just putting out 70 percent, of the maximum rated wattage.

245 Watts.

INTRUDED....SYSTEM HAULTED

there should be a little push button located somewhere on the case where the access panel meets the case itself, if pc is started with access panel off you will get that message, there are two ways of disabling that feature,... locate the little push button and there should be a wiring harness coming off of it going to the motherboard, just disconnect from the motherboard, or if you dont want loose wires in your system you can go into bios and disable it from there, should be under security or something similar to that, hope this helps

:CMOS Checksum Bad error Hi, My system had intel c2d 2.13ghz processor and 2gb ddr2 ram to begin with. I recently added 2gb more (both are 667 mhz). Now i'm getting an error while booting which says CMOS...

Yes--most probably a memory error.
If you added memory and kept the original memory, they might not be compatible.
Try running with only the old memory.
Then try running with only the new memory.

Bet both work. But not together.

I inserted a DDR2 ram and the board stopped working thereafter

According to the manual for this motherboard it supports only DDR2 memory so you won't have done it any good installing DDR ram. Check with the manual that you have the correct DDR2 ram for the board and that you are installing the sticks in the correct slots.

Raid sys on p5k/epu

You are correct. The Asus P5K does support SATA RAID configuration. Page 4-14 in the user manual.
Congifuration [Enhanced]. Only real option is IDE. That does not mean the SATA drives will run like an IDE. The SATA's will function faster. In order to get RAID function you would need to have bought the Asus P5K Deluxe. http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=P5K%20Deluxe/WiFi-AP&SLanguage=en-us

Powering up

You need to remove the cap from 8-pin EATX12V connector and connect 8-pin EPC +12V power plug from your P/S, otherwise it will not work. Your power supply should support 8-pin EATX12V. If you P/S comes with 4-pin connector only you just use your 4-pin open spot and leave the cap on.
