I have dell c840. Suddenly only the left most light of the three lights gets orange when power is switched on and then there is no activity and screen remains blank. Bty light when plugged in also remain...

hello

shut down computer - unplug power cord from laptop - remove the battery from laptop - plug Ac adapter into computer and Ac outlet (wall)
turn on computer
if computer does not turn on, replace the AC adapter and cord - then place battery back into computer
plug in new Ac adapter and cord - recharge battery - if orange light stays on after 4-6 hours of charging battery, you need new battery as well - replace battery, charge it up and it should be fine

if you have attempted these steps before and no change occurs, then you may have issue with power connection in computer - locate a service centre to replace power connection on computer

Black screen problem..... start up

The issue might be due to presents of static charges, hence request you to power drain the ntoebook.

Power Drain:
  1. Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC and remove from any port replicator or docking station.
  2. Remove the battery from the notebook battery compartment.
  3. Press and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds.

NOTE:
Holding down the power button while the computer is turned off drains any residual charge in the capacitors.
  1. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook PC.
  2. Press the power button to turn the notebook PC back on.
  3. Use the arrow keys to highlight Start Windows Normally , if it is not already highlighted, and then press the enter key.
if persists, recommend you to take the notebook to technician for oniste diagnosis.

Laptop wont start up

Make sure to test your ac adapter if it is still working. If you have an alternate ac adapter, test if your laptop is still getting power. It is usually indicated by a blinking led light beside the ac port. If it looks like it is charging, try to charge it for about 30 minutes. If it still won't power on, try to do a power reset. Remove the ac adapter and the battery then press and hold the power button for about 10-20 seconds. This step can be done also if the above steps won't work. You can also try to remove the battery and power the laptop on while it is connected directly to the ac power.

New ideapad, doesn't have power

Based on your description of the issues you may be having a DC jack issue. I would suggest to insert the ac adapter and wiggle it around see if there any indicator of it try to charge the laptop. But in most cases that a laptop does not power on its due to the jack.

Problems with charging

This still could be either if the cord is being moved at the same time. when the laptop is able to turn on, Does everything (programs, software, etc) function properly? If yes, then we can narrow it to the battery or ac adapter.
To find out whether it is the ac adapter or battery, take out the battery, and see if the laptop powers up and stay that way. If it intermittently closes or shuts down, it's most likely the ac adapter.
If it stays powered on, even if you move it, then it's most likely a battery issue.
If you want to be sure before spending some money, go to a friend's, neighbor's or computer store with a with the same manufacturer (dell, toshiba, etc), and borrow their ac adapter to check

Handset has message Out of Range even though it is fully charged on on the handset.

The handsets are reading out of range because they have lost connection with the base. This happens mostly during peak power demands or power outages, but can also happen when the phone is unplugged for any amount of time. This can also cause, at times, the answering machine to stop picking up calls. To remedy this issue, reset the phone system. Please follow the instructions below:
To reset the phone:
1. Disconnect the power adapter, phone line, and remove all batteries from the base and all handsets. Leave it disconnected for 30 seconds to reset the base.
2. Place the batteries in the handsets first and then plug in the power adapter and phone line. Do not place the batteries back in the base yet.
3. Put the handset in the charge cradle.
4. It may take up to 1 minute for the "Out of Range" to clear from the display.
5. Once the "Out of Range" is cleared from the handset place the back up batteries back into the base.
