The same thing happened to me and the ink tank is full. I've removed it and the light goes out, but when it resets, the light comes on again. Any suggestions?

I have a Canon Pixma MP960 Printer. It's about a year old and I have had a problem with error U 150 "The following ink tank cannot be recognized ".  The problem first occurred  when I replaced an empty ink tank with a new Canon ink tank and got the U150 error !!.  I ended up trashing the full ink tank and buying another replacement. This one worked.  I replaced another tank last week. It worked for about three days then error U150 Popped up again. The ink tank with a integrated chip is a consumer's nightmare. The tanks are much more expensive and they cause the printer to shut down  completly turning them into a complete piece of junk !!!. I have owned other Canon Printers, one with the six ink tank system that worked great. However I think this printer with the chip on each ink tank and lack of control by the owner would  make a good boat anchor.

My MP 960 has the same problem (yellow ink tank cannot be recognized). It's really unfortunate that I can't even print black when this happens. dead in the water until I buy a new tank, I suppose...

Same issue-- the black tank "cannot be recognized" and it's full. Sometimes re-fitting the tank or re-booting the printer works, sometimes not. Pitiful.

Canon MP 600, when a low ink warning occurs and you know it's a full cartridge, goto , Printer Miantenance,Clk Printer Status, Options, on drop down menu remove tick Display low Ink warning automatically, I have no need for the warning, I operate a CISS ink supply system, until I found a way around the problem I couldn't print from a scanned copy, Cannon do issue a warning regarding the disabling of the service. which is not appliable in my case, hope you find this information helpful. Regards REME.

I have the same issue with my Large Black ink tank, does not seem to make any difference if it is full or not. I had this issue on the first large black tank that came with the printer and now with the second. Like the other person (guest) that had occasional success with a re-seat of the tank... one would think this is a bad contact perhaps? All my contacts appear aligned and clean?? This is a huge pain as it disables being able to do anything, printing and or scanning. Not sure if I would buy Canon again after this (obviously very common) fiasco... JT

I keep getting the error code U150 on my canon mp600....the ink is full??? it says the ink tank cannot be recognized on the black 8 and the red light is NOT on?????

Hello,
your problem is easy to solve.
Press and hold Resume button for at least 10 seconds, if that dose not work press and hold the OK button for at least 10 seconds. This procedure will bypass the ink level detector and will continue to print as before.

Error code U150 The following ink tank cannot be recognized

First, make sure you have the right ink cartridges. Here are the right codes: CLI-8BK and PGI-5BK for black, Yellow - CLI-8Y, Magenta - CLI-8M, Cyan - CLI-8C.

If the ink lamp is off then an ink tank error has occurred. Try to remove the ink tank and re-seat it. Make sure you removed the plastic cover on the ink tank. If nothing helped, you need to replace the faulty ink tank.

U150, the following ink tank cannot be recognized

I had this same problem too and it's so frustrating because you cannot even scan and scanning is completely unrelated to ink. We called Canon and found out that it was a bad print head (ink tank). They ended up sending us one for free so I recommend calling them to report the problem. 1-800-828-4040.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.

Getting ink cart error message U150

U150 ink error fixed!

I too was getting the error for unrecognized ink cartridge. Then the little green circ board fell out of the end of the ink cartridge and it hit me that maybe if I put in the little green circ board from the old ink cartridge of the same color, then maybe the ink cartridge would be recognized. It worked! So don't throw out an ink cartridge that still has ink just because of that error and hold onto your empty cartridges in case you need the little green/gold circ boards.

This works!

U150 error on MP600 Canon printer

Canon should offer a product recall on all printers affected by this common U150 problem. I wonder though if they are even aware of it, or care. There are no forums (as far as I can see) on the Canon web site. Maybe they're clueless, and that's bad. Maybe they're NOT clueless and don't care, and that's bad too.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

Same problem - two solutions I found helped me work out mine. One said contacts needed to be cleaned and it worked to use a Q-tip and alcohol or just click it in position several times until it recognizes the cartridge - this may work. Another said that they got it to work by installing a brand new cartridge - cool, but I have one full of ink it won't recognize. So I pulled the little circuit board off a used cartridge (like you need to do with some refills) and put it on the cartridge that it wouldn't recogrnize - works great. Still haven't figured out how to get it to acknowledge ink levels though. Canon really should be more consumer friendly since these problems seem to be intended to compel the use of proprietary cartridges.

PGI5BK Ink tank not recognized on MP600

You say the "original" is 3 months old? You are out of ink. Replace the cartridge. Even when there is still a little ink in the "tank" it reports back to the printer as empty. And yes it will go through all its checks and still show empty. They don't last forever even if you don't use the printer. The ink evaporates out over time.
