1. Have you tested the outlet by plugging in something else and confirming that the outlet is good? If another device doesn't work in the outlet, then you have a bad fuse or breaker that powers that circuit in the house.

2. If power is OK, you probably have a bad fuse in the oven. You'll need to unplug the oven and remove the outside cover. Replace the fuse with the EXACT same rating of fuse of the original.

Please get back to me and let me know what you find.

Good luck!

When power went off and then came back on, screen on micro wave continually shows demo and I cannot set time

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes and try again.

If it still won't work, then you may have a bad membrane keypad / DP circuit.

We installed a GE Spacemaker Microwave. I put some potatoes in and the microwave was working, suddenly it went off. No light nothing, it just went completely dead. Came back ON after 15 mins,started...

The main fuse may be intermittent, causing complete power failure, the other possibility is a defective door switch not operating properly, or loose plug in the power feed, I suggest a technician to take closer look at the system because this could prove tricky to find the culprit.

It just went dead. from working great(7 years old

Blown fuse. Remove the outside cover and should be located near the area where the power cord enters the unit.

I pushed the light button on my microwave and all power went out. It is not a breaker. Could it be a fuse?

You say all power went out but it is not a breaker. What power went out? In your kitchen? house? or just the machine? Can it be that you are plugged in a circuit that is protected by a GFI?

There normally is a fuse inside an oven on the floor. Unplug the device, remove the cover. DO NOT TOUCH THE SILVER CAN IN THE BACK - LETHAL.

Check the fuse with an ohm meter or contunity checker of some type.

If you need additional assistance, please let me know.

I hope this was helpful for you

Electric went out to the house, it came back on, and the microwave inside light works, the display panel reads just a " : ", and none of the buttons work. I have tried resetting the breaker with same

Hi cschnur,
It seems that you might need to replace circuit board.
All the above mentioned conditions refers to a faulty circuit board. You might have blown few Ic's.
Take a voltmeter, check the continuity. If you are aware of the Ic's, replace them.
Unless, look for a tech, a used board ( On http;//www.ebay.com ) or purchase a new one.

I would say you have a problem in the high voltage section, such as a loose or corroded connection at the magnetron or a bad magnetron.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

So is it dead? (No life, no beeps, no lights?)

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the thermostat to open.

When it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If it's random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or fuse holder.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

No power...

If the stove was on without the hood fan's being on, it could have put too much heat in the "innards" of the microwave. It may have opened the thermostat or thermal fuse located inside - either on the chassis of the microwave or or the magnetron. It will look something like the one in the attached photo. For helpful exploded view diagrams and to order any needed parts, you can visit the GE parts Web site or the Sears parts Web site at http://www.geappliances.com/shop/prts/ or http://www3.sears.com/ (the 3 is correct) In my profile, you can find a link to my site, where you can find critical safety & disassembly tips.
