If you can get the unit to boot windows you should get and run a program called combofix, if you google it you will find it at majorgeeks website. This will get rid of those programs. If you press F8 before windows tries to load you will be greeted by a boot list, you should try last known working configuration and again run combofix.

Its running real slow i just got the computer and would like to reboot the whole thing

I would suggest getting more ram, uninstalling unused programs, and ensure you have no viruses or spyware before rebooting the whole thing. Also try Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter which are included in every windows install. var fctb_tool=null; function FCTB_Init_8c66e6b90b1f41da81fe7925163cc6e9(t) { fctb_tool=t; start(fctb_tool); } FCTB_Init_8c66e6b90b1f41da81fe7925163cc6e9(document['FCTB_Init_840462b29f7947a29ec87e686e109d2e']); delete document['FCTB_Init_840462b29f7947a29ec87e686e109d2e']

Infected with spyware

Without more details, the only advice I can offer is to find a spyware scanner/remover (I will post links to a few good free ones below).

If those cant find it or remove it, then another option would be to back up your data and run system restore (Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore). This may remove the problem, but if not...

Then you may have to re-format your computer. To do this you need to have the restore disks that came with your machine, or a CD/DVD copy of the operating system. Insert the disk, restart your computer, and then you should be prompted to boot from the CD. Follow the instructions given after that and all viruses, spy-ware, ad-ware, etc should be removed.

Hope this helps. If not, please comment.

Toshiba Satellite 1805-S204 ...

Do a Windows Update. This will be on your Start Menu. If it isn't, thenclick on "All Programs", then "Accessories", then "System Tools". Thiswill take you to the proper page. Alternatively, try windowsupdate.microsoft.com(notnecessary with Vista). It is very important that you get all availablesecurity updates. Other updates may less critical, but are stillrecommended.

Get rid of cookies. These are the little crumbs that are left behind onyour computer after you visit a website. Click on Start>> ControlPanel>>Internet Options. The second row down will say DeleteCookies, click on that. Click on Delete Temporary file; when the littlebox comes up that says "delete offline," you don't have to click onthat. Click on Delete temporary Files.
400px-browsing_history_297.jpg magnify-clip.pngAlternatavely, download CCleaner and CleanUp! and run them both after installation. This will take care of all of your wasted space (e.g cookies, internet cache files).

  1. Complete Disk Cleanup. After clicking on "Start", move your cursoron "All Programs", then up to "Accessories", then "System Tools". Clickon "Disk Cleanup" from the list that appears. Click the "More Options"tab at the top of the page, and select all three of the following:"Windows Components," "Installed Programs," and "System Restore". Cleanup all three by clicking on their respective tabs. You may want todelete all but your most recent system restore point as you probablydon't need the others.
  2. Defragment your computer.Defragmenting your computer moves all your files to where they aresupposed to be. You may want to download an independent defragmenter(e.g. Defraggler by Piriform). It is small, concise, powerful, and much quicker than the one distributed with Windows.
  3. Remove adware, malware, and spyware. Use a search engine to find"Lavasoft AdAware 2008". This will take you to a site to download thesoftware. Download and install this program. You can also use "SpybotSearch & Destroy." SpywareBlaster is a good preventative measure to use as well. All have easy-to-follow instructions. SUPERAnti-Spyware is yet another option. For malware, MBAM is yet another option.
  4. Install anti-virus software. Kaspersky, AVG, Bitdefender, Antivir, and Avast are free for personal use.
  5. Go to My Computer. Now go to tools at the top. Folder Options...View, then check the box "Show Hidden Files and Folders" then go toLocal Disk, Documents & Settings, Your Account, and deleteeverything in: My Recent Documents, Local Settings History (Do notdelete everything in local settings, just delete everything in thehistory folder of local settings) (and while in Local Settings) Deleteeverything in temporary internet files.
    • 180px-add-or-remove-programs.jpg magnify-clip.pngRemove unwanted programs by going to start, control panel, add/remove programs, then remove unwanted programs.
    • When your computer is running in ship-shape, then go to start, allprograms, accessories, system tools, then system restore. Create arestore point, and when your computer is running poorly, restore it tothe day.
    • If you havn't cleant up your PC for a long time, you may need to clean your PC Registry with a System cleaner and Registry repair software

Absolutelly not. Spyware or malware infections must be solved only with an appropiate program
There are two good programs to solve this issue, both of them free

Avg will not load

Uninstall it and reinstall it. You seem to have spyware that has taken it over and stopped it.
TRY ALL OF THESE THINGS. Sounds stupid but spyware takes many things to stop it. Spyware can do a lot of things and it takes more than one program to catch all of it. Spyware will shut one program down and another program will have to repair what the other one did not catch.

Turn the system restore off. System restore keeps everything in restore. Meaning......... If you have spyware or a virus, it will stay in your system. Run Spybot S&D (This program is free and is better than using msconfig as long as you go through the settings and change everything to the highest settings.) Then do the same with Adaware 2008 (sounds stupid to use 2 things for spyware, but one catches what the other one does not.). I have links on my website (tandnfamilyelectronics-online.com). These links go directly to the download so you will not get the run around. You would do good to try a program called Window Washer (Free window washer download.). This is a great program that completely cleans anything in your computer that you do not need. It will not clean out anything that you have to have. I have used this for years to clean out my customers computers and have cleaned as much as 3 gigs of trash out. If you contact me I will give you some tools that I have for free that will do a great job on your computer. I have them ready to download and I will give you the link. ([email protected])

Send me the complete specs of your system and I can help you more. I hope that this helps you. There is no reason the really buy a program for spyware when there are free things to use that work great. Free AVG is a great Antivirus and yes it is also free. It will check your e-mail coming and going. It will also let your friends now that the E-mail does not have a virus. It also has a spyware program that is free. This day and time with all of the spyware out on the net you can never have too many programs for spyware. I would not run all of them at the same time though. Make sure that you do not use your computer during any scan. Defrag is also something to do after you do everything else. Some people will tell you that should not reload your computer. If nothing seems to work then sometimes that is the only good way to get it repaired right. Most of the programs that come pre-installed on a store bought computer is useless and most are even trail software that causes problems when they expire. Let me know if this helps at all. Please rate me if it helps.

I have Toshiba Equium laptop which is less than one yr old. For two months the Dvd Rom and usb sockets are not shown in laptop and i cant use those devices. System restore only goes back a few day and all...

Don't use system restore. Use the disk that came with it if you have it. Sounds like a virus or spyware.
Hit f8 or f5 when it starts to see if you can get an install screen if you do not have a disk. You can try this below.

Webroot Spyware Question

Hi kn21_83

Your SpySweeper program functions by viewing incoming programs requesting access to your computer, referencing them to a built-in definitions file that updates regularly, and granting permission or red-flagging potential spyware programs. So, the definitions file is very important for the program to work properly.

I recently had a customer's computer display the same error message, and the way I was able to work-around it and make the SpySweeper program work properly was to uninstall it completely, ensure that there are no other anti-virus programs that might interfere with SpySweeper's install (if you have norton for example, manualy disable it for the duration of the install), and download the most current version from the internet rather than your disks that came with it.

Now, there could be other things involved, such as a malicious program interfering with how SpySweeper functions. In that scenario, restoring your OS is usually the fastest method of restoring functionality to your machine. Hopefully it is not a virus infection, but if you run out of ideas to resolve the issue a restore is a simple fix that guarantees success.
