Connection Through Hub

Hi, I have a Computer that does not have Fire-Wire Ports so I purchased a Hub that could provide both USB and F/Wire Ports and connected the S/Card to it. However, when installing the Driver there's a point where the system searches for the device and it does not continue, assumably because it is not finding it. Is it a problem to run this connection through a hub instead of direct connection to the computer.

The hub is most likely the problem.

A lot of hardware doesn't like to be used with a hub (webcams, ipods, etc)

My best advice is use a PCI firewire card.

in either computer have you set the printer to default so that each computer knows where to send the data
you may also have to have the computers on a home network for it to work
the hub by itself is not the answer

When i put the USB cable and connect to the LAP, its not getting charged. How can i solve the problem? do i need to install any software?

Hi - when you say "LAP" I assume you mean laptop or notebook computer. Some computer USB ports do not have sufficient power to charge (or operate) devices like cellphones, GPS, large external hard drives, etc. You may be able to charge if you disconnect all other USB devices that aren't needed to run the computer. In order to get around the problem without having to do all that, either purchase an external charger for the GPS (which may be fairly expensive) or purchase a powered USB hub.

An external powered USB hub looks like a traditional USB hub, except for the fact that it has a power cord to connect to your home power outlets. The power cord will often look like AC adapter. The powered USB hub is ideal because they provide additional USB ports, are fairly inexpensive, they provide all the power for the USB devices that are connect to them (the computer's internal power supply is not used) and it can power or charge devices connected to them without needed the computer to be powered on. Simply plug the USB hub into a USB port, and AC power source - then connect the devices that need a large amount of power to the hub's USB ports instead of the computer's USB ports.

The parts included with powered USB hub (clockwise from left): USB hub, USB connecting cable and AC power adapter.

Many powered hubs will work without the power adapter - however they will supply power to the devices connected from the computer's internal power supply.

I hope this helps and good luck! Please rate my reply. Thank you.

Hi my blackberry comes up with this message but when i put it into my computer it does not read the device. Thanks

Hi

Please try using one of the USB ports at the back of your computer instead. The problem is that the front USB ports on most computers do not supply enough power, hence they produce problems like you're having where the device is not detected.

If you find using the back USB ports a problem, consider purchasing a powered USB hub. It will plug into your front USB port, and a provided power supply will give it extra power from the mains, allowing the devices you plug into it to have all the power they require.

Usb damage

It wouldn't hurt to be honest about what happened with the service plan provider and see what they say. It would be a shame to have to replace your computer over a broken USB port. You can always purchase a USB hub which plugs into one USB port and supplies you with two or more USB ports.

Good Luck,

I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO PUT THE USB CONNECTOR

If you only have one USB connector then you can purchase an USB hub which may have 4 or more ports (I suggest you get a powered USB hub). Then plug the hub into the computer's USB port and you now have several USB ports.

Device unplugged????????????????

Some phones don't like using USB hubs, especially with advanced capabilities on the USB connection. Typically, the USB hub will not reset itself or configure itself as it needs to, computer gets confused.

Try another hub, preferably self powered, or add the power adapter to your hub if not already using one. Also try removing devices that consume a lot of bandwidth and require constant communication to the computer as well. VOIP, disk drives, and scanners / printers all in one can be problematic with other devices.

Direct connection to USB port on computer is best, but there usually not enough ports,

I just bought a Loigitech Premium 4-port hub but it does not work on my computer. I have a Dell Inspiron 510m laptop of about 2002/03 vintage. when I first plugged it in I got the message (something...

First go ahead and plug the hub back in and see if the ports are working. If they are not. I would try to go into control panel and then goto system and then hardware and then Device Manager. Scoll down to the USB Connection Field. See if they are any explanation points in yellow over any of the devices in the usb connection fields. If there are, Then its a driver issue. I would right click on them and click uninstall... Once doing so you can right click on any field and then click on scan for hardware changes. This will make the computer re scan for the USB Device Hub that you just purchased.

Note: Currently there doesnt seem to be any drivers availible for this device for Windows Vista.

Hope this helps

USB Ports are not working

s.gif s.gif

A USB device, such as a camera, scanner, or printer, loses its connection and stops working unexpectedly. The device may appear to work fine when Windows first starts up but later stops working. Use the steps in this document to resolve this issue. Disable power management on the USB hub To preserve power, Microsoft Window XP tries to disable USB when a device is not used. Under certain circumstances this function does not work and may cause USB devices to fail to respond when called. To resolve this issue, disable power management on the USB hub by doing the following:
  1. Click Start , and right-click My Computer .
  2. Click Properties , then click Hardware .
  3. Click Device Manager .
  4. Double-click the Universal Serial Bus Controllers branch to expand it.
  5. Right-click USB Root Hub , and then click Properties .
  6. Click Power Management .
  7. Deselect Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power .
  8. Repeat Steps 5 through 7 for each USB Root Hub.
  9. Click OK , and close Device Manager .
If this doesn't help download everesthome. Run the program click on the chipsets and google the northbridge for updates.
