Question about HP Deskjet F4180 All-in-One InkJet Printer

HP Printer F4180 will not work on new Vista OS

Just purchased a new gateway pc with the Vista Premium Home Edition OS. I was told that my Lexmark all in one printer would not work with Vista since it was from 2004 and Lexmark doesn't have an updated driver. I purchased an HP deskjet F4180 all in one printer. I followed the CD install directions, it did not work, I receive an install error that the driver is not found. I contacted HP and they told me to Update Windows and then download the driver from their site. I did all that that and It still doesn't work. I turned off my anti virus software, still did not work. I uninstalled the printer and rebooted my system. I tried this 7 times and it still will not find the driver. Does anyone have any suggestions on this? Or should I exchange for another printer.

You could try removing the DSL from the router and running the HP Installer again. Sometimes the filtering can interfere with the router's communication between the computer and the printer.

Otherwise, I would recommend getting one of their printers that has an ethernet port for wired connect (will scan this way; printers won't with USB connect to router) or a wireless 802.11 radio.

The product key on the label on the bottom of the laptop will only work for the version of Windows that was installed on that laptop.
You can purchase an upgrade Windows Vista Ultimate and to use in conjunction with the existing Vista Home Premium.

Lexmark X5070m for Windows vista

I have Windows Vista Home Premium and I am thinking about getting one of the X5070m printers. I talked to my computer repair tech first to get his opinion and he told me to load the program disc first and follow the step by step instructions and NOT to connect the printer until it tells you to. So yes, uninstall and reinstall the program and follow the above and you should be set. If not...let me know before I buy one too.
