Copystar 1635 copier/printer set up problem

Brand new, initial set up for printer feature. Only have one cassette. Paper fully loaded. Copies fine.

When trying to print test page from PC, both the instrument panel on the machine and and the PC software printer monitor show that there is no paper in cassette 1.

Have tried printing from manual feed also, same warning: Load paper.

Have loaded and reloaded paper.

Picks up paper for copying just fine.

paper size is letter on doc and letter on driver and letter on machine. paper loaded is letter.

media type is auto on driver, plain on machine. paper is plain.

orientation is not a factor, since that would be in the doc settings.
feed orientation is not changeable on printer.

paper color not factor, since this is a bw.

printer will not print from command line either.

oem printer monitor software shows paper source choices, but the opportunity to set a default paper source is grayed out.

windows printer properties window does not show a manual paper load choice, while the machine is asking for the manual paper to be loaded in the message on the panel while in print mode. (the manual paper feed is loaded with paper, though.)

the machine panel does not offer a cassette 1 choice while in printer mode, but does for copy mode. this looks like the problem to me. the computer driver seems to be set on cassette 1, while the machine wants to load paper from the manual feed, but the driver doesn't give a manual feed option.

in addition, after attempting to print, the printer goes offline and the oem software monitor on the PC cannot read the configuration.

the oem software feature will not open by double-clicking it on the program list.

    there are no driver updates.

i am running win xp pro sp 1. i am going to try to set this printer up on my xp sp 2 laptop and see what happens.

thanks for your help and would appreciate any further ideas.

    Problem is solved!

When I printed with ledger-sized paper, all was well. That's how I found out that letter-sized paper COULD fit into the paper tray two different ways.

I force-printed a letter-sized doc by pushing the copy button in spite of the 'load paper' warning, and the doc printed w/landscape orientation, even though I had directed both the driver and the machine to print portrait.

In conclusion: The printer required that the paper be oriented vertically for letter-sized and horizontally for all other sizes. I had originally loaded letter paper horizontally, following the directions in the manual.

Thank you 'tryit' for mentioning the orientation in your first post. Thanks for your time and being right in the end!!

It sounds like you have the wrong paper size selected in the printer properties itself on the computer.

What the problem sounds like is that the machine and print driver are set to diifferent paper types.
One says plain paper and the other bond paper.
Or something like that, the machine says bond and the printer plain paper.
Chech the size setting and paper orinentation.
Most of the time the paper type is wrong. Also check paper color etc etc. Something between the machine and driver is mismtached.

Ohhh, Ok. What happens when you open your browser and put the IP address in the Address window? Do you see the printer? If you see it, then refresh the machine. Let the configuration reload and see if it shows the paper feeders then.
    Are you using a firewall?
Sounds to me after reading your comments now, that your firewall is blocking Data. You can ping the printer with a firewall, but if there is not an exception for the IP address put into the firewall settings it will not allow the machine to print, and cause odd problems.
Reading what you are writing now, sounds more like a firewall issue not allowing the full data to be read to and from the printer.
You can try turning the firewall or firewalls off and see what happens then.
Also set the Media on the to plain instead of Auto, just in case there is some conflict there. Shouldn't be, but I have seen weirder things cause issues like this.

Glad you got it resolved. Just those little things that you have to keep changing that will resolve those issues.

    Good work. Persistance paid off.

How do i load card stock paper in my copier...it jams.

Hi,

card stock is tricky to run do you have a bypass tray this is not a paper tray it is a tray where you can put 1 or 2 copies of paper in it? It is on the side of the copier if you have one try that.

Good Luck
