Repplacing power cord on Hoover Wind tunnel (not self propelled)

How do I dis-assemble to replace the power cord on the Hoover Wind Tunnel (not sel propelled)

Thank You

Dick Miller

I have the same problem - I need to replace a power cord on a Hoover windtunnel. Yes, Yes, I know this is potentially dangerous. I have the right replacement cord.... I just need to know how to take it apart... please. Does someone have a technician's manual perhaps? My original instructions manual doesn't help in this case.

NEED TO TAKE VACUUM APART TO REPLACE POWER CORD

  • cabingirl Apr 10, 2009

I have the Mach 2.1 and the power cord came loose inside the backing and I can't seem to find the sequence of screws to get to the connector without disassembling the entire backing and then I'm not sure I'll get to it.  Help!

I am thinking that the cord goes in on the back, just below the handle. Remove the handle, then from the front, remove the tool holder(#8), then you can get to where the cord comes in and hooks up.

I replaced the power cord on my vacuum not too long ago. What I did was a simple splice together. I made sure all the correct splicings were in place (I.E. Ground to Ground wire...hot wire to hot wire). I placed heat shrink further back on the wire, not shrunk yet. I then soldered the corresponding wires together. Back to the heat shrink...You use the heat shrink to isolate the wires from each other so there's no arcing and to cover up the solder job. Then you use another piece of heat shrink to seal all the wires together. If you do it right it will look like a real good patch job.

Open the cover and keep pushing back until it pops off, remove the on/off pedal(pry it up from the back), take out the 2 screws and then the cover over the motor and cord reel will come loose. You can go to sears.com, click on the parts link, put in your model # and a page comes up, you can select the main body to see it apart, and you can select the reel cord asm. The parts list and picture will come up, you can order thru that page. To replace the cord is tricky, use a allen wretch to put in one side of the reel and lock it down, maybe in a vise. Then you can start taking it apart, careful as not to let the allen wretch go or the spring will unwind, then you would have to replace it also. Repalce the cord then put it back together again. Print out the diagram of the reel so you know how it is put together.

Hi
This is HARD and you NEED electrical knowledge and IF NOT UP TO IT YOU COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS TO YOUR SELF AND OTHERS.
You do not say what the problem is with the cord.If is it damaged then it needs to be replaced with a new one.and then above applies.
Take Care as to what you do.

My hoover wind tunnel just quit while vacuuming. It is dead??? Two years old used about every other week? Any suggestions?

Some Wind Tunnels by Hoover have a poor design in the switch on the handle. Sometimes the switch does not turn on all the way and will stop running. Other times you can't turn the unit off.

Why won't hoover wind tunnel self-propel?

Hi there! The self-propelled feature is controlled by a belt. Check the belts on your Hoover Windtunnel by following these quick steps.

1. Recline the handle. Lay the cleaner fat and flip it over to expose nozzle base.
2. Remove the screws attaching the nozzle.
3. Check that the belts are not broken, stretched or damaged.

Replace the belts if they are damaged. Hope this helps!

Your self propel cable sounds like you need to have an adjustment. reccomend a service shop repair.

Why wont the self propelled brush on the hoover wind tunnel work. large belt is ok. the small belt looks 0k.

no don't do that, have a little patience.check where the self propelled assembly is and see if anything got in there, something might be loose and the teeth are meeting each other.thats a good vavuum.i have 2 but their not self propelled.try taking the belt off the self propelled machanisn and try it again.if it works then something is keeping the propelled machanism from working.dig a little deeper, what do you have to lose?

Hoover wind tunnel upright self propelled. U6473-900. Brush does not work. Heard it was a 'brush controller' problem and can be fixed. Please tell me how.

Most likely the flat belt has stretched enough so as to not turn the pulley that in turn turns the brush roll using a V belt. Also there is a small idler wheel, if hook up, then it won't engage the V belt.

HOW DO I REPLACE THE DRIVE BELT ON A HOOVER WIND TUNNEL SELF PROPELLED

Take the brush belt and slip it over the pull into the groove. Then take the flat belt and hook onto the motor shaft and then pull belt over pull and push it around the entire pulley. It can be difficult but after the first time it is easy. You have to push the belt up with your thumbs so the belt will wrap all the way around
