My Dyson 07 beater bar doesn't rotate

I thought it was the belt, bought new ones and when I took off the bottom the belt was intact! There is sound and suction but no beater bar, what could be the problem?

I removed debris from my beater by removing the plastic cover from the bottom, when I replaced the cover and tested the unit the brush did not turn.I pulled the bar out a little when I cleaned it,then I reseated the bar and I tried it the bar would not turn.Could I have damaged the belt,or moved it off the motor shaft.Richard

Hi.

If your Dc07 is all floors it will have A clutch fitted this is easy to determine just stand in front of your machine look down at the left hand side there will be a coloured knob on the side e.g. blue.yellow, green, purple this will have a pointer on it which when you pull handle back to vacuum must move to drive position you can rotate it by hand if it is stuck in park position ,
If there is no belts broken the brushes will now turn.
If they don’t the chances are one of the 2 belts have snapped.
You will then need Manuals to help you repair the problem.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having a problem with your DC07. Please note that the brushbar will never rotate when the cleaner is standing in the upright position, or if you've used the brush control to turn it off.

If you have the cleaner reclined in the vacuuming position with the brush control set to 'ON', and the brushbar will not rotate, please get in touch with us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US), so we can provide the assistance you need.

Hello. i only have one arm and am trying to figure out why my beater bar wont turn on my dyson dc14. the belt smells a little too. thanx, trixie

Sounds like the beater bar is frozen in place. This sometimes happens when the ends of the bar become stuck in the holders. The solution is to remove the beater bar and clean the small holders on each end removing any debris that has built up. Spray with a little WD40 and then manually rotate the beater brush around the holders until it is free, then replace. Be sure the belt is installed properly.

Check out this YouTube Video:

http://www.ezvacuum.com/dyson-dc07dc14-clutch-assembly-90025204-genuine-p-1636.html

After reading a ton of forums I thought I needed to replace the clutch assembly. My Dyson was making a horrible noise when in "carpet" mode. Got a new clutch on eBay for a great price. Somewhat hard to replace, but thanks to the YouTube video, I was able to get it in.

HOWEVER this did not resolve the issue. I realized the beater bar was not spinning or was slipping. I thought I cleaned it all out but realized you need to take the beater bar out and pop the end cap out and clean the INSIDE of the beater bar. I additionally sprayed WD40 in there.

It spins great now and in the end I think that's all I had to do was clean out the cat hair build up inside the beater bar. But now I have a new clutch & belts too. Hopefully won't have issues anytime soon.

Belt replacement

It's a fairly simple job. The belt just loops over the end of the beater bar and motor shaft. Need to take the cover off the beater bar housing to get to it. Most difficult part is stretching the belt while putting the beater bar back in the housing.

Beater bar doesn't move

I smelled burning and thought I had burned up my belt...when I took the bottom off the belt was fine. I took the brush off and found that if you pull real hard the ends come off...OMG there was so much dirt, hair and **** that the brush was not moving freely...after I cleaned all of that out and put it back together...it's just like new...I can't believe it...I'm so happy.

Howdo I replace dyson belt??

Replacing the belt on the DC-17 is not complicated at all. Once I understood how, the process took about 5 minutes. My best suggestion is to call Dyson and they will quickly and cheerfully walk you through it without making you feel stupid. Here is what they told me: 1. Remove the bottom plate that covers the beater bar, using a flat head screwdriver; pull the beater bar out so that it is only attached by the belt. 2. Use the flat head screwdriver to wedge the belt off the beater bar. It takes a little bit of wiggling, but it is not difficult. 3. Once the belt is free of the beater bar, use the screwdriver to unhook it from the gear that is attached to the motor inside. 4. With the new belt, repeat the steps in reverse, hooking the new belt onto the motor gear, over the beater bar, etc.

If the DC18 has a proteted belt then it will have to be replaced by a Dyson engineer or repairer. If the cleaner has a removable sole plate where the beater bar is then remove it and replace the belt - sounds like the belt has snapped and needs to be replaced. if your DC18 is still relatively new it should still be under guarantee.

I had a similar issue. I called Dyson. Hey why not, the number is right on the from of the machine. SO IS the beater bar on/off button, right next to the big red on/off switch. It does have a safety off when something jams the bar from rotating so the motor doesn't burn out. I also removed my sock and on restarting the thing, the beater bar would motor was not turning on. I thought the reset would be inside but no, it is right outside in plain view, which I didn't see either. It is a grey button opposite the big red on/off switch. Boy did I feel dumb after that phone call!
