Two different models one is lean it back two screws hold the complete base on and you just twist the pump off. the other you can access the pump from below the internal filter on the left one torx screw and you can see if there is anything blocking the pump. regards

Dishwasher wont drain

If you will open the door on the front of the dishwasher, you should see two small screws going through tabs holding the dishwasher to the countertop. They are in the front, and above the door.
If you will remove those screws, you should be able to pull the dishwasher out about halfway into the room.
Do not pull it farther, because there are 3 important components you want to leave hooked up. The electric wires, the drain hose, and the fill hose.
Remove the front lower panel that hides the bottom of the dishwasher, and you should see a water pump made of plastic maybe the size of your fist, maybe on the right side.
The drain hose should be attached to that pump, as should electric wires. The drain hose goes to the sink drain in most cases
Find a way to catch the water and or sludge that may come out of that hose, and remove the hose from the pump that goes to the sink drain. You may need a pan that holds a quart or more liquid.
See if that hose is clear of being plugged up.
Sometimes too much food left on the dishes can plug up the pump or the hose. Examine the pump to see if it is plugged.
If the hose goes to the garbage disposal, perhaps that is where the plug-up is.

Water leaking at the bottom of the door

Tightening the fittings
1 Remove the service panel that runs along the front of the dishwasher just below the door. If it is screwed in place, remove the screws with a screwdriver. If the panel hangs on hooks, pull the panel out and swing it up to remove it from the hooks.
2 Check the end of the drain hose that connects to the dishwasher. If it's leaking, tighten the clamp with a screwdriver.
3 Check the drain hose connection to the kitchen sink drain. Again, if it's leaking, tighten the clamp with a screwdriver.
4 Check for leaks around the water-inlet valve. If necessary, use an adjustable wrench to tighten the compression fitting that connects the water-supply line to the valve. If the fill hose is leaking, replace the spring clamp that is on the hose with a worm-drive hose clamp. It produces more clamping pressure. Use adjustable pliers to compress the spring clamp so you can pull the clamp and hose off the valve. Remove the spring clamp from the hose. Buy a worm-drive clamp at your hardware store, then install it and tighten it with a screwdriver.

Leveling the machine
1 Remove the front access panel (see step 1, "Tightening the fittings"). This will give you access to the dishwasher's adjustable feet.
2 Open the door completely and remove the bottom dish rack.
3 Unscrew the dishwasher from the kitchen countertop so the dishwasher can move freely as you adjust the feet.
4 Check to see if the dishwasher is level side to side. Place a small level inside the dishwasher so it's sitting on the bottom pan and facing parallel to the front lip of the dishwasher. If the dishwasher is not level, use adjustable pliers to turn one of the dishwasher's front feet up or down until you hit level.
5 Check to see if the dishwasher is level front to back. Turn the level perpendicular to the door, and place it on one of the bottom ledges that run along the side of the cabinet. Check the level again. If the dishwasher isn't level, use your adjustable pliers to turn the back feet up or down until you hit level.
6 Reattach the dishwasher to the countertop and reinstall the front access panel.

Fixing a leaking door
1 Inspect the door gasket. As it ages, the gasket can crack or become hard, preventing it from sealing completely.
2 If the gasket appears solid, adjust the door latch so the door seals tightly. Loosen the screw that holds the door latch to the cabinet. Push the latch in slightly and retighten the screw. Test the door and readjust the latch if necessary.
3 Replace the gasket if water continues to leak after you've tightened the latch. Most gaskets are held by compression in a groove on the door or on the dishwasher cabinet.
4 Pull the old gasket out of its groove, using adjustable pliers (see illustration). Take the gasket to an appliance store to get a replacement.
5 Soak the new gasket in warm water to soften it, then press it into the groove. Start at the top, then work your way down the sides and across the bottom.

I'm trying to find out info on Hotpoint dishwasher catalog # 40mc20

That number is not a factory Hotpoint model number, you need to get the Hotpoint model number, which starts with #HDA*******(example#HDA1100NWH) then go to www.hotpoint.com and you will find info on the dishwashers.
GOOD LUCK !

Need to replace drain hose how to get access to do this

Hello Oriel7,
I am assuming that your dishwasher is built in and not a portable model. That being the case, and assuming that the drain was originally installed correctly and feeing into your house drain near your kitchen sink, you may need to pull the dishwasher out from between the cabinets. To do that is fairly involved however I would ask why you need to replace your drain hose. If you see a section damaged or leaking then you may be able to remove a section anmd splice another tube to that. If that is not going to solve your problem then you will probably want to gain access to that drain house from the toe kick panel beneath the bottom of the door. That panel should be removable ( depending on the model ) and access to where your drain hose attaches will vary from model to model. If you cannot reach in from the front to remove and replace it, you will need to unhook your dishwasher from the cabinetry and slide it out for access to the connection point. The degree of difficulty doing this will vary from installation to installation and wil be dictated by the way your water supply line is attached as well as how your ac power is applied. Newer methods of bringing ac power to the dishwasher are similar to any other appliance in that the electrician will provide an outlet receptacle that you can plug your dishwasher in to or out of. Older techniques 'hard wire' the power in a junction box in the bottom of the dishwasher and a bot more involved in disconnecting. If that is the method your dishwasher is installed, you will need to remove or disable power to that wiring by swithcing off the appropriate circuit breaker or power disconnect. In any and all cases, the process of removing the dishwasher from bewteen two base cabinets is not very easy. Please elaborate on the reason why you need to replace your drain hose and the method your dishwasher has been installed. If you can provide more details, I can help you resolve your problem. Good luck.. hope this helps you.,..
Regards

Hotpoint dishwasher full of water after cycle complete

If the motor is running, the diverter solenoid valve is probably not functioning. It is attached to the pump. With the power off, take the solenoid apart and remove whatever is jamming it. Toothpicks are a favorite as are any large food particle. It may also be bad. Not the problem...you may have a defective timer or your outlet hose is clogged or kinked.

Sometime food particles stick near the door gasket. First, try changing the DW soap brand.
