Hi team
I want to upgrade my 2.8 ghz intel p4 cpu (compaq nx9010) to a better one, what is the max that I can install, and the type. FYI Note that following the constructor forum, I am using a desktop CPU and not a mobile one (just for the socket).
So, what do u advice me, and last, My laptop cannot go more then 1 gb of RAM. Can I make any change to allow more memory RAM for my Laptop.
Thanks and cheers
Why do you put cash on such an old horse? P4, wow... with a square screen no less.
the PC has book at HP, many , one is service,
and shows all processors offered for the time it was made.
read that yet?
no you cant add more ram.
it also uses ram that is not made now. making this harder, to the max. ask , Frankston memory this question.
for $20 at Goodwill buy one far newer, and avoid this thing,
sorry but that is best, why mess with an old compaq relic MOBO.?
the laptop only runs laptop CPUs.
why do it. name 1 good thing about old laptops?

Simply plug the ac adapter into the wall, the laptop will charge the battery itself. Keep in mind this... in general, a laptop runs at full speed when it is plugged into the wall. When most laptops are running on battery, things are running more at 50% capacity to save on power, this giving you more battery life. A dimmer lcd and slowing the processor down when not needed are common traits. You can use the FN key (function key) and the corresponding dim control on the keyboard to adjust the brightnedd of the backlight. It should be marked on your keyboard in a different color, like blue or maybe green (not familiar with that models keyboard).

It is unlikely you need to solder a NEW jack. Just resolder all 3 lugs (and support lugs) on the existing jack. After extended use (and especially if you catch the cord with your foot and stress the jack with that kind of leverage) the connections to the motherboard get loose. A clean soldering gun and flux core solder will usually repair everything fine. Add a bit of extra solder to each lug (but never enough to contact any other connection). Then I always finish with a few coats of super glue or epoxy between the jack body and the motherboard (but you must be sure not to get any fluid inside the jack/connectors!). The glue adds strength and makes it better able to resist the stress. Lasts a lot longer. But you must be very sure of yourself, to open a laptop. If you are not 100% confident, then yes, you should go to Best Buy as you asked. If you do it yourself, and cannot download a manual for this, then it is vital to take notes of where each part/screw goes, and the order you disassembled things.

No, your laptop has socket-M the T7800 and T9500 are socket-P. I believe the fastest you can put in there is the T7600

Are you wanting to clear thr BIOS password? IF so the only way to do it on a laptop is to pull the CMOS battery out. Then boot the computer up to BIOS and it should be cleared, then just reinstall the battery.
