Lamp light turns red

Yes this is the signal for a bad lamp. Other things can cause this. 1. Look at the new lamp. make sure it still looks good. not broken with little glass pieaces in it. 2. When you turn on the tv, put your ear to the lower back part of the tv near the middle. Listen for the start up of the color wheel (a low high pitch sound only at the start up of the motor). If this is good you will here a ticking sound only if the lamp dose not light.

Now with all this info. If the lamp lights (as seen from the back of the set) and goes out after a few seconds and you did not here the color wheel spin up, the color wheel is bad.

If you here the color wheel spin up and no ticking sound, the Ballast is bad.

The ballast part no. 939P978010

The color wheel is not avialable from Mits. You will have to replaced the light engine. It cost to much. Just buy a new tv.

No pic No sound

I would call PTS at 18008447871 and find out how much a new deflection board cost, because by the time you find out what is wrong and start replacing things you will be out more money. Not including the smell that means probably the flyback was burning or arching.

No pic no sound just ticking

This set normally has problems in the horizontal and high voltage circuit. The horizontal output will short out and I often change the high voltage transformer. The high voltage splitter is another one of the usual suspects. Since it's ticking at plug in, then, I would look at the secondary of the high voltage transformer or the regulator circuit. Checking the the horizontal output first for a short and if ok, checking the B+ voltage on the collector would be my next step. That should give a good thought as which direction to go. Hope this helps.

Panasonic rear projection TV 47 in PT 47WX49

i have the same model and this happened to my set 1 day after yours! i am sending it out for repair on monday so i can let u know what was done and what it cost. i found this: from repairfaq.org:Power-on tick-tick-tick or click-click-click but no other action A variety of power supply or startup problems can result in this or similar behavior. Possibilities include: Lack of startup horizontal drive - see the section: Startup problems - nothing happens, click, or tick-tick-tick sound. The main regulator is cycling on overvoltage due to lack of load. Excessive load or faulty power supply cycling on its overcurrent protection circuit. High voltage shutdown, or some other system detecting an out of regulation condition. However, in this case, there should be some indication that the deflection and HV is attempting to come up - momentary whine, static on the screen, etc. A dried up main filter capacitor or other filter capacitor in the low voltage power supply that is producing an out-of-regulation condition until it warms up. A bad filter capacitor on the output of a series regulator may result in excessive voltage and subsequent shutdown. A problem with the microcontroller, relay or its driver, or standby power supply. One possible test would be to vary the line voltage and observe the set's behavior. It may work fine at one extreme (usually low) or the other. This might give clues as to what is wrong.
