Double check that you have plugged in both the power adapter & the IDE or SATA cable. Windows XP will display a CD icon even if one does not exist.

If that does not work return the CD-ROM

Hi,

Try to run the following hyperlink

Hyperlink to microsoft automatic assistance

Hyperlink to Cd drive autofix

If it doesnt work then try following steps:

  1. loadTOCNode(2, 'resolution'); Click Start, and then click Run. (in case of windows 7 click start, look for search program and files , type in there regedit and hit ok, jump to step 3)
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

  1. In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click
UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 7.
  2. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  3. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  4. In the right pane, click LowerFilters. (dont panic if you dont see lower filter)

    On the
Edit menu, click Delete. (or simply right click and select delete)
  5. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  6. Exit Registry Editor.
  7. Restart the computer

Hi, I know you've tried everything that I probably would have mentioned so; go to the "Start Menu and select All Programs, scroll to find the Media Disk Player. You made need to (Setup) the Player, just open the Player and select to "Setup / Install, follow all the instructions, remember to click on the Apply and OK buttons when finished, and lastly, restart the computer. Hello,

The CD Burner drive is compatible with your Windows XP the software version is where the problem is. You need to get an updated version of the burner program, something like Nero burning ROM or Roxie EZ CD creator.

Simple question: How do I write/save information onto a CD-R disk

Save the information you want to write to a folder of your choice, in a location where you will know to find it. You can make a special folder in My Docs called Export or whatever....
Then right click the Start button to open explorer. Browse to the folder you saved and select (highlight) it. Right click and choose Send to: CD-RW drive.
Yes to write these files, etc. Probably you'll get a notification balloon that the files are ready to be written to CD.
Scroll down in that same explorer window (or open a new one) to your CD drive (D?) and if you expand it (click +) you should see the files waiting there.
Now highlight the CD drive and click on the File menu. You'll see an option to Write these files to CD. Choose that and the writing takes place..
To retrieve info from a cd, you open explorer, scroll down to the cd drive and open the file or drag and drop it to another location in your documents, for example.
Please also see a step by step guide from Microsoft by clicking here, and a link to the Windows XP Help & How to that you might wish to save as a favorite available here

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take a moment to kindly rate this post....thanks!

Redone windows xp.... now cant burn dvds

There are dozens of free perfect functioning  burning software. the one that i use is Totally Free Burner 3: as the name says it's free, extremely small ( just 1 MB compared to 100MB for Nero), fast and very easy to use. get it from here http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-Tools/Audio-CD-DVD-Burning/Totally-Free-Burner.shtml

How to use my cd burner

Windows XP has built-in CD/DVD burning support, but it is very basic. Simply right-click on any file you wish to burn and choose "Send To" then select your DVD drive. Doing this will add the files to your "burn queue". At any time after that, you can click "File" then choose "Write Files..."

Or, you can use a better program like Nero or Alcohol 120 ...or about 1000 other CD/DVD burning programs on the internet. It's really a matter of personal preference, and price :)

Hope this helps - remember to rate :)

My drive will read DVDs but not CD/CD-ROMs

If your DVD/CDROM is not working ie..playing movies or not installing programs it may be because you have installed a software program that edited the regitry for the DVD/CDROM - (Limewire, any burning software, etc..) windwos installs an Upperfilter and or a Lowerfilter in the registry for the CDROM - to correct this follow these instructions:

To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers.
To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box (Vista) or regedit in the Run box (XP), and then click Regedit in the
Programs list if in Vista or click Open in XP.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue. (Vista)
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkeys: (must be exact keys)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SYSTEM
CurrentControlSet
Control
Class
Once you have clciked Class the click Edit on the menu at the top
Copy and paste the following key inclcuding the curly braces into the Find What box.
Click "Find Next"
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3. Highlight by clicking on "UpperFilter" and "LowerFilter" ONLY - then hit Delete on the keyboard and select Yes
4. Shutdown and restart the computer
