Question about Frigidaire GLRS237ZA Side by Side Refrigerator

Buzzing sound and not cooling

My refrigerator sounds like a Dryer buzzer going off. It cycles at a every four minutes and buzzes for ten seconds. I took off the rear panel and the sound is coming from the compressor area. Could this be the Run Capacitor or the PTC starter?

It looks like you have a bad compressor. try replacing the ptc starter and the run capacitor, if it did not change anything, then you have a bad compressort that needs to be replaced. if those parts are expensive, test the capacitor by using an analog meter, test the terminal using the X100 resistance. the meter needle should indicate continuity and slowly goes back to infinity. then reverse the terminals to the test prods and it should happen again. then test the resistance of the ptc starter, it should have a reading between 20 ohms and 100 ohms. and there whould be no rattling sound inside the ptc starter. hope i was able to help...

Hi,

Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.

Freezer compartment no longer cools. Continuous defrost cycle?

Good day,
Sounds more like the compressor trying to start and can't.
Pull the machine out, remove the rear cover and see if in fact the sound is coming from the compressor.

Amana side by side, buzzing, no fan in fridge.

that sound is the relay/overload. it is trying to start the compressor. the problem is either that relay or the compressor itself

Something has stopped your compressor. The part could be the start relay, start capacitor, overload or the defrost control board. where are the buzzing sounds coming from ? Sea Breeze

Yesterday started hearing a buzzing sound from the fridge. Came home today with a pool of water in the kitchen coming from the fridge. Opened the freezer, ice is melted and inside is relatively warm....

I would check for a bad starter relay first unless you can verify that the sound is comming from the compressor. How to check stuff> http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

REFRIGERATOR IS MAKING A BUZZING SOUND, not cooling

You have one of two problems going on. Your fan is spinning at hitting the sides. Or your compressor is shot which seems to be more the problem and even though it is cold the humming sound is a warning for you that the compressor is shot and it is more affordable to replace the fridge then the compressor. Sometimes compressor can cost more then the fridge.

INTERMINENT BUZZING NOT COOLING

from your description it sounds as if the compressor is not starting up. the buzzing noise usually occurs approx. ever 3-5 minutes and is followed by a click. this indicates either a bad start relay or a stuck compressor. and from the model you listed it is most likely the compressor. if the unit is under 5 yrs old it should still be in warranty thru sears.

Freezer and refrigerator not cooling. Makes a buzzing noise

hello sbarrry2 it sound like the motor that is running continously is the condenseer fan and the buzzing and then the click would be the compressor trying to start up and going off on overlaod. shut the unit off at the swiutch, let it cool down (3) hours possibly and then try to turn it back on. this should work. Thanks for using FixYA

It sounds as if you have a defective compressor start relay.  It is located on the side of the compressor, usually contained within a black plastic housing (box).  If ordered, it will most likely come with an overload proctector.  Change both parts.
