HP LJ 2840 problem

Incorrect yellow error displayed. Yellow cartride appears to be in the midcycle position. How do I reposition the cartridges when the button will not advance the cartridges.?

    I have a HP laser Jet 2840 printer. I have replaced all the cartiages and still the incorrect yellow message appears on the printer screen. I need help in fixing

    I have the same problem with the same machine (HP 2840). However, I am unable to locate the clutch in order to fix it. I require a more detailed description of where the clutch is.

    i am having the same problem, and i am having the same problem, i came to the conlusion that it was something greater than the actual cartridge, but it was the only way for the printer to send a message on the yellow cartridge positon. so i took out the image drum, and all the cartridges and looked aroun, and i notice that the gears werent aligned and that can be seen on the yellow cartridge position, i believe its called error 54.2 and you can see how to actually fix it, its realigning the carasoul. hope you guys have luck with it, as for mine i think its something greater than that as i get a loud noise as if it were hitting something

I'm about to dive into the printer and change the carousel. I'm having the same incorect yellow msg even when the cartridge is not inserted... I'll be back with further info.

    Mike Wiggs - try to manually move the carousel by inserting a thin screwdriver into the carousel clutch - top/right under the cover - there is a white guide for that. Do this with the power plug out.

    Yeeey. Replacing the carousel solved the problem. I had to replace the Y toner cartridge as well...

    btw im not the best typer, im the person who has all types of typo mistakes like switch around letters, or forget to add a letter or add too many letters, hopefully you can forgive me

Incorrect Yellow


Are U installed specified yellow cartridge? Chk with old cartridge & chk for the message.. Same error? there is a mechanical issue, carousel unit might be misaligned..To align it technical skills required, better go to the nearest service center.
If different error replace with another cartridge.

Its clear indication that yellow cartridge in correct or faulty, replace it.No need to replace carousal drive motor.

I have hp laserjet 2840 i replaced imaging drum and black cartrige now my printer says incorrect yellow and i cant get it go rotate or print?


If you used a compatible cartridge (as I assume) the problem is with the cartridge "CHIP", very common on compatible cartridges, return the cartridge or replace the chip. The chip is on the top of the cartridge and can be remove.

The screen says incorrect yelo and the cartridges will not rotate.


What is the brand of the yellow cartridge?
By the by, are you able to take the yellow out or is it stuck in the carousel?

Turn off the printer and open the cover and manually rotate the assembly for the toner.

Install yellow cartridge when already installed on display


I would try removing all cartridges, turn of the printer, turn it back on and wait for the error messages, then reinstall the cartridges.

you need to remove the plastic cover in order to remove the problem cartridge...

Re-installing yellow cartridge in HP 2840


There is a gray button right of the LCD display that has a black arrow circling clockwise and four color dots (magenta/black/cyan/yellow). Push it until you see the "Rotating to Yellow" in the LCD display, then open up the top of the printer by pushing the big gray latch next to the picture card reader at the right front of the printer. You now have access to the cartridge. pull it out and examine it. If it is a new cartridge, check to see if you pulled the plastic dam strip out (which keeps the toner in place in shipment etc).
