My DVD recorder has started to give error's after a dvd is recorded and at times will not finalize the dvd after it is recorded

There are a few possible reasons why your JVC 150 DVD recorder may be unable to finish a disc or is displaying an error message indicating that a disc is an ad:
Compatibility of the disc: Not all DVD recorders are compatible with all DVDs.
Your JVC 150 DVD recorder might not be compatible with the DVDs you've used for years.
A dirty lens may prevent the DVD recorder from adequately reading the disc.
Even if a lens cleaner helped, if the issue still exists, it might be required to have the lens cleaned by a trained expert.
The CD might have been scratched, damaged, or otherwise corrupted, rendering it unreadable.
Firmware issue: The firmware of the DVD recorder may be outdated or malfunctioning, causing it to not be able to read or finalize certain discs
Hardware issue: There may be an issue with the hardware of the DVD recorder such as a malfunctioning laser head or reading mechanism that is preventing it from reading or finalizing discs.

Toshiba dvd R/RW =/- TS-H552D/GAAH just quit on me. It will not recognize anything I put in it even though the light and the front flashes like it is trying to. Yesterday I was copying me cd collection and...

Since it is not reading any of the discs it usually means it is driver issue or the drive it self. Easiest way to see is it driver is to uninstall it and restart your pc. Once it is up it will tell you it has found new hardware and it will install it. Once it says it has been installed try to read a cd again, one you know it works for sure. When you go to my computer if you can see the drive it self it means it is not connection issue. To uninstall it:Right click on My computerand click manage. Once in manage on left pane select Device Manager. In the next window that opens on right side you will have all the devices that are installed on your pc. One of them will say DVD/CD Rom drives if you have a DVD reader or just CD Rom. If you click on little arrow next to it it will show you what is there, You gonna right click on your DVD/CD drive from here and click uninstall. It will ask are you sure and just say yes. Once it is done restart your pc and once restarted give it about 3-5min to finish installing the drivers. If this does not work you might want to replace the reader it self. They are pretty cheap these days, like in Walmart, BestBuy or any other store that sells PC parts. Hope this helps and good luck.

I am having trouble burning to a DVD-RW,it does not recognise the disc I have in the drive,it keeps asking for a DVD-R-RW, what is the solution, thanks , Graeme

Graeme,
The LG GCC4522B CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive is NOT a DVD BURNER.
It is a "combo" drive, which means that it can only READ DVD+/- discs and READ/WRITE CD's.
There is no firmware upgrade or any other modification that can convert your combo drive to a DVD burner.

Dvd burner not working

It sounds like the DVD burner does not have a "write strategy" for the type of disc you are using. This results in the burner and the software having an endless argument about how to go about the burn!
You can either use another brand of disc more compatible with your burner or go to the DVD burner's manufacturer's website and check for "Firmware" updates.
The firmware is the software within the drive that establishes the write strategy for each type of disc and these are often updated.
If you do update the firmware then be sure to read the instructions on the manufacturers website carefully and follow them EXACTLY.

Dvd problem

i think it might be software related if your lucky and not a hardware problem.

what you should try is update your dvd drives firmware which should be listed on your manufactures website, if not (which is most cases) use google by typing in 'make model firmware' (the actual word firmware not yours)

good luck

Unable to read files from some dvd

hi there

Playing DVD on a computer can be complex, and involves many processes, each dependent on the one before it. Sometimes a DVD is released that includes features so advanced that some hardware may have a difficult time reading it properly. If the drive’s manufacturer has been advised about the issue, they usually release an upgrade to the firmware of the DVD drive to correct the issues.
Firmware is the control software in a storage device, and contains coded instructions for recognizing the contents of whatever disc is inserted. It is referred to as "firmware" because it is not stored on a disc itself, but rather a hardware chip inside the drive’s housing. Other devices, such as ZIP drives, CD-ROM drives, floppy disk drives, and even hard drives, all have their own firmware as well. This is a crucial component when using disc-based media. Fortunately, the chip that stores the firmware information is designed to be "reprogrammed" with new instructions, should problems arise. If this situation exists in your computer, then it is possible that the manufacturer of your DVD drive has released an update that corrects the problem.

so my advice, check your manufacturers site if there is a firmware upgrade for your dvdrom. and always put in mind to clean your rom.

hope this helps.

Drive can't read DVD

Jeff - If you have not changed your software configuration in any way since the last time you could successfully play a DVD, it could be that the drive has failed. You can test this most easily by taking these DVD's that won't play in your Acer now, and play them in another good computer, or a regular home DVD player. If they play in your other systems/players, you will see right away. And if the machine is that new, you might be able to get it easily fixed under your manfuacturer's warranty.

If you have made any kind of changes to your system software that could affect your dvd burner, that could cause it to not recognize them perhaps, as well. By changes I mean - installing some kind of alternative dvd playing software than what came with your machine, etc. If you did not make any software changes, it is likely a hardware problem.

Has trouble reading discs (intermitant) when burning

There are two common causes for these kinds of problems: software doesn't match, or media doesn't match. also, there a lack of info in here. is drive capable of reading dvd's when it is used for other purposes? 1. are you sure you got the right firmware? check for updates on brand site or on google. 2. try using several types of media from diffrent brands. some drives cannot read specific media (for instance, sony drivers sometimes having trouble with JVC media). 3. the least common, but worst option by far is a hardware problem. if drive is bad, you should try and replace it in case your warrenty didnt expire.
