Question about Compaq (190563-001) External Floppy Drive
I have acquired an external Compaq floppy drive that I want to use with my Toshiba Laptop. It has a parallel connection that connects to the printer port.
The computer, running XP, does not detect the drive.
Using the add new hardware wizard does not seem to work as the item is not listed anywhere in the selections.
There are various numbers on the drive itself, but none of them is identified as a model number.
External, parallel port based FDD's are just too darn old and uncommon, and there's no auto-detecting on these things. These things also come with their own power supplies - so make sure the power supply is plugged in or else it ain't gonna get no power - and then you'll need the drivers (which I doubt will be XP compatible).
A USB based external FDD would be a much easier solution!
