Plug and play problems

I have windows xp. I am trying to get my printer to hook up to it but everytime I plug in the USB wire the computer won't recognize it. The computer informs me that something has been added but it doesn't know what.
All the info I have on the printer says that it should be a plug and play printer and install itself but this is not happening. Is the problem the printer or the computer.

Thanks a lot. The problem ended up being a bit more complex than that but you put me on the right track and now it is working!

The link helped me too! Thank you so much!

I've had troubles for the past year with this printer...worked at first. I had followed instructions to uninstall the printer from the control panel, then mak sure it's not showing up within the printer and fax, then I removed the driver within the server properties from the printe and fax window. I used this link you suggested, and it appears to be finally WORKING! THANK YOU!

Hello. You need to install the CD software. Taking the term plug & play is not what it used to be. Your XP needs everything to be in it's place & have a name & drivers to function. Click the link below which will load HP's instructions for installing & uninstalling your USB printer PSC 2175 all-in-one. Scroll down to installing software:

Everything will work out ok. Still need anything? Just post back.

Let me ask one question. Have you loaded the print drivers for your printer. If not do so. This will fix the problem.

Plug the USB cord from the printer to an available USB connector on your tower, insert printer disk into computer drive, then go through Printer Setup and you should be able to print.

Since i got windows xp my cannon i70 nolonger is printing

Try to re-plug the printer to another USB port on your computer, it should automtically detect the printer as a new hardware. If it didn't, try these steps:
  1. Run Add Printer Wizard of Windows (from Control Panel> Printers and Faxes).
  2. Choose Local Printer (it's okay if it didn't find Plug n' Play printer).
  3. Select USB Virtual printer port (assuming that your printer is connected through USB to your computer).
  4. When it ask to choose the manufacturer and model, just select the closest match to your printer.
If the model couldn't be found (or not even a close match to Canon i70), you will need to download driver from Canon website.

Konika Minolta 2400W can not connect. Clearly Windows XP sees it, and the driver is installed etc. When I plug or unplug the USB cable, Windows plug 'n play notices the difference. And the USB cable works...

Everytime you disconnect and reconnect the USB cable to a different port, unfortunately, Windows creates a new and distinct copy of the printer. You can see this by looking at the Windows Printers folder. The solution is when you change around USB ports, right click on the printer icon that is actually the active one (the other copies will be grayed out) and Set to Default. Then you can delete the other invalid copies. Then in the Minolta status software, go to the Display menu and Select Printer to change which printer is monitored to the correct copy. It's very stupid that Windows Plug n' play does this, but it does. So avoid change around USB ports on your Konika Minolta printer.

Is hooked up to computer but says it not hooked op to computer will no print off computer

this could be a communication problem.

you need to make sure that the cable that you are hooking up is the one that came with the printer, also you may need to plug the cable into a different port and check if the computer detects it.

{take intensive care in case you follow these steps. }
there is an entry for USB printing support
and USB composite device in the device manager under USB devices, if you remove these entries. the computer will start detecting the plug and play device and hence will detect the printer.

Printer is not working.

Your computer should pop up and tell you that you've installed a new piece of equipment anytime you plug something into the USB port, since most peripherials are plug and play. If not, then it doesn't recognize the printer. You may have a bad USB port. Try plugging the wire into a different USB port during the installation process.

With Brother, you have to use their installation CD and follow their instructions. You can't hook up the wires till *after* the CD has walked you through their installation process.

Try reinstalling using their CD and a new USB port to see if it will work now.

Is hp deskjet 2460 a plug and play printer?

Try uninstalling the software and delete the printer from you "Printers and Faxes" window if it is there.

Disable your firewall and any antivirus programs you have running.

Try installing the printer again according to the setup guide.

Once installed enable your firewall and A/V.

You can try making sure the cord is securly attached on both sides, and make sure the computer is recognizing the (assuming)scanner or all in 1. You might also want to try reinstalling the driver for the printer.

C5180 WON'T INSTALL THRU USB

that means your system registry has some major printer issues..ok

remove ALL printers from your system

go to HP and get FRESH drivers..

install them

hook up printer, ensure it runs, disconnected from computer(test pages, etc).

then, when you're sure the printer is happy, connect through USB, and your XP should see it, plug and play..

If it doesn't then take a look at your XP version to make sure you are up to date.

and in the meantime..got backup for that computer?
