Remove battery + power cord from AC adapter. Wait 10 minutes. Plug in only the power cord. Power-on the laptop.

If laptop starts correctly, plug in battery while it is up using the adapter. Leave on for battery to recharge.

Dell Latitude D600 Power button functions intermittantly. I need to know wher to get one and how to replace it.

I would suggest a couple of things first:

1. Have you tried removing the power button strip and checking that there is no obstruction underneath that might be causing the issue?
2. If you have a docking station do you get the same issue when using the docking station power button - this would help eliminate if it is a motherboard issue.

Dell do have some handy manuals on line that can help:

This shows how to remove the power button bezel:

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd600/en/sm/keyboard.htm#1111863

This shows the small removable power button board (just to the right of the arrow labelled 1) - it is held in place by 2 small screws with the connector underneath which fits onto the motherboard.

http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd600/en/sm/sysboard.htm#1000461

The power button board can be found on eBay for around £5:

Hope this helps

Remove Any Docking Stations or Port Replicators From the Computer Note: Docking stations and port replicators are optional equipment. If you are unsure if you have a docking solution attached to your computer, refer to Table 1 and Table 2 for examples. To remove the docking station or port replicator, perform the following steps: Shut down the computer. Remove the docking station: Universal Docking Stations: Disconnect the docking station's USB cable from the computer. D/Port or D/Dock: Remove any cable locks from the security slot on the right side of the docking station. Move the slide lock forward to the unlocked position. Press the Eject button and lift the computer from the docking station. C/Port II or C/Dock II: Remove any cable locks from the security slot on the left side of the docking station. Pull the locking lever forward until it stops to eject the computer, then slide the computer out of the docking station. DELL Latitude D400 - what are the series of (blinking) icons?

sometimes this indicate a fault with memory or the system itsef. Before you begin you will have to remove the battery and the ac adapter.Remove the memory modules .Replace the battery and the ac adapter without the memory.Power it on if it comes on and beep several times then the memory is bad.If not remove the battery and the ac once again.Press and hold the power button for twenty seconds to clear the nonvol memory.Replace the memory the battery and the ac adapter. If still no go remove all the same items along with the hard drive and cd rom,Insert the battery and the ac adapter try again. If you hear a beep this time replace the battery(remember whenever you install to remove power). If nothing works and you none of the desired results you will have to replace the motherboard.
Good luck

Hold down the Fn key and press the up arrow several times until it tops out. By default, if you are running on battery power, it dims the display to conserve power.

yes it can, plug a external monitor in the video port if you get video the rest of you computer is good the problem is the display. Now you might want to speak to a pro for repairs as it could be simply unplugging the conector from the motherboard or replacing the inverter.Last but not least you can try this for yourself remove the power battery and memory, press and hold the power button for twenty seconds.Reinstall them again and try again.
