Question about Lasko 1128 Humidifier

Humidifier occasionally runs in spurts (on for 2 secs and then turns off)

It does this constantly until i either turn it of or change the humidity level.

The problem with mine is that it sputters, like it's switching on and off several times a second. I'm guessing it's on the hairy edge of wanting to turn on, but only has 1 threshold level and can't decide whether or not to actually run.

It could be a dirty sensor or something, but I'm guess it's just a bad design.

Had this problem on my 1128, and bought a second for the office thinking my first was just defective. Within a few months, second one did the same thing. Its a really poor design AFAICT. Hoping to find out what to take apart or clean to get both of them operating properly again. Constantly changing the humidity levels is NOT an option.

It's just trying to keep the humidity level you set it at. By dropping the temperature in your home or changing the humidity level you want you can avoid this.

Good Luck.

Check the thermo protector fuse at the bottom near the heating pad. The fuse must not be open circuit. If it is, replace it. You can order the fuse for $1 from eBay or Amazon. Good luck!

I have an Essics H12-400 humidifier that appears to be operating correctly but it doesn't need refilling but every 4 days or so even on the highest humidifying setting. It has a new filter.

It may very well be operating properly. One way to tell is to buy an inexpensive humidity gauge and check to see what the humidity level in the room is. (You rarely need extra humidity when the outside temperature is above 32°, and usually not until it drops into teh teens.)
Here's one you can pick up for $10 on Amazon.

What is the gallons per 24hour output capacity of this unit?

There are several variables that will determine the gallons used per 24 hour period.
  • At what humidity level do you have it set for? The higher the level, the faster consumption.
  • How much air movement is there in the are in the house/area of the humidifier?
  • How air tight is your home?.
  • How may people occupy the home?
  • Whats the temperature setting for your primary heat source?
Let's assume that everything is perfect. Your humidifier holds approximately 6 gallons of water, when completely full. The ideal humidity level depending on the outside air temperature is 40 to 50%. Once the humidity level you have it set for is reached, the humidifier shuts off. When the humidity level drops significantly, it turns back on. So, as you can see, it's difficult to come up with an exact figure. But based on if everything was perfect, about 1.5 to 2 quarts per hour or almost 6 gallons in 24 hours.

For more details on this humidifier call 1-800-546-5637.

Hope this helps you.

The humidifier says "desired humidity" when turned

I would say, either the humidity level in the room is hi or the humidifier is defective, In my house the humidity is about 42% to 45% when we use the humidifier, and can drop to 30% or less if we don't, we leave in DC area,
I hope this helps.

Have a large new house with lots of vinyl clad wood double hung windows on a lake temp today this am is 0 F we have a HRV system house temp is 66 downstairs and 58 upstairs heating with a heat pump and...

Really not efficent to run a heat pump at those temperatures. Below freezing is not good for the compressor in the outside unit. The humidity in the house with the low temp. is causing the condensation on the windows to freeze. Kinda like an air conditoner does in the summer without the freezing humid air from the house goes over the cold a/c coil and the moisture condensates on the coil running down to drain pan. raising the temp. in the house and lowering the humidity should help. I would also recommend running the electric heat in low outside teperatures.

Moisture

This may not be a humidity problem but a condensation problem. to cold outside too warm inside. humidifiers are tricky because they are to be set according to outside temperature, what you can do is try turning your dial up or down, let it be for a couple of days then try again until you get to a comfortable humidity level.

Aprilaire 600 humidity level too low

The max the aprilaire can put out is 45% Rh. Your humidifier may wired up to run only when the heat is on. In some cases this is not enough time to maintain your humidity level your seeking. To correct this, the hum. has to hooked up the hot side of the water supply. And the humidifier has to be hooked up when the fan runs and leave the fan run constantly
