Floopy drive when i put a 3.5 disk in drive keeps asking me to format it, these are all proven disks recently used?

When I connect the drive It will not read any of the disks that I have been using with other comparable computers. I kept being asked if I want to format the disk. When I reformat, it starts and then says that it can not complete the format. I have tried many different disks (they all work on other computers). I have also had the supplier send out a new drive. The problem is the same with the new drive. I have used the drives on 2 different computers and had the same problem with each. HELP!

I have the same trouble but with a different genaric older drive, I copied the data off the disc's and reformated. The disc's worked for a week then wanted to be reformated. The disc's read fine on other PC's, so I am replacing the Floppy drive with a new one. Could you have a virus that is messing with your drive?

Sounds like you have a bad floppy drive. If you are unable to read a disk and it wants to format it so it can read it try letting it format a floppy with no data on it or with floppy you don't care about. If it can format and you can read and write to it, then bad disks. If not then you know you have a bad floppy drive. Replace and enjoy.

Sabrent external floppy reader is asking me to format my floppy disk. how can a format it without deleting my files on floppy disk?

Your floppy disk drive may be defective. Also, Some floppy drives are manufactured differently. Your best bet is to find another floppy drive to read your floppy disk. You can try to take it to the nearest computer store and ask them to read it for you. If they can read it at the computer store? The Sabrent drive you received if bad. If they cannot read it the floppy is bad. If the floppy is bad you can try to download free data recovery software to attempt to recover your data, files etc. Good luck

You can't retrieve data from those disks on whatever computer you're using it on. It apparently doesn't support the same format that you used save the data to the disks initially. I don't know what you can do, other than just trying the disks on any computer you can find that has a floppy disk drive until something works. Personally, I absolutely hate all the formats there are for removable disks. I have problems just like that with CDs all the time.
Well, good luck.

Won't read disks

Hey Rorel,

The issue could be either the floppy drive or the disk. If you have another computer with a floppy drive or know someone that does try using the disk on their drive. If the drive cannot read the disk then the disk is bad. If it ok the external floppy drive could be bad. Keep me posted.

Thanks,
