If you open a internet browser and go to 192.168.1.1, that should take you to your router configuration page. from there check security or wireless security and it will give you your key.

I am trying to connect my laptop to wireless internet, but it keeps asking for the security key. What is it?

an access key is configured in the wireless routers web console to allow only the users with the key to connect to it. sometimes referred to as a "WEP KEY" or "WPA key" or "authentication code" To login to your web console, join your computer to your wireless router with a network cable (yellow below) to an Ethernet port 1,2,3 or 4 ef8efd2.jpg open your browser and surf to (instead of www) 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 (most common) you should presented with a login screen most common username and password is admin and admin a482702.jpgonce you have logged in look for your wireless security setup screen such as this.....5be26fc.jpg
look for the Wireless and Security Screens to enter or check your access security code, enter a code or review the existing one. Then once you save your changes you can connect with your laptop, now that you know the security key.6679972.jpg

Wirless connection wont connect to network.

On the WLAN world, exist a encryption key for connection. You will be able to see the "antenna", but until you enter the key you will not be able to access the network or the internet. First, disable the wireless security and try. Once you have verified the connection to internet then you add security. Use WEP.

Wireless connection will not work

The computer is viewing the signal, but its not connected yet. For that you have to enter a "key" in hexadecimal format. In other words you have to configure the security of the wireless connection on the router, then you have to enter the "key"that the router gives you. To enter the administrative configuration of the router, connect with the cable the computer and in the internet browser, enter 192.168.0.1 or search for gateway IP address of the computer. There you configure Wireless Settings. Always use encryption for security reasons. WEP encryption will be good.

It may because you have a mac filter on. If so you can correct this by connecting to the router then in a Internet explorer type 192.168.1.1 and you should have a configure screen available then either disable the mac filter or enter the other mac adresses. Good Luck

Wireless laptop with win.vista can't connect to my 2wire

1st Look for a wireless network, it will be named 2wireXXX (XXX = the last 3 digits of the serial # on the bottom of the 2wire modem.) When it asks for a WEP or a security key, it will be on the bottom of the modem in between 2 bar codes and it will have [ ] around it, this should be a 10 digit #. If that does not work. I had a problem with my MAC and my Windows VISTA 64 BIT Laptop not being able to keep a stable connection with the default wireless username and password.
To get into the 2wire: Open a Internet window Address Bar 192.168.1.254 Home network "At the top of the page" then click on wireless settings "Also at the top of the page" Then you are in the wireless config to change the information.
What i had to do is change the wireless authentication to WPA-PSK and change the wireless password (Use a 10 digit Number as the pass-code, a phone # would be a good suggestion) , what you also need to do is change the name of the network along with the channel of the wireless, it helps if you take it all the way up to 11. Then you should be smooth sailing all the way. :-)
