Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
Good Luck!

When I turn monitor on, it stays on only 2 seconds, then goes dark. When I turn the monitor on, it lights for another two seconds, then goes dark. It is a MAG Innovision TCO 03 display. Thank you!

It could be two things. 1). The video card is set to a resolution the monitor does not support. 2). The monitor's power supply is bad. You can try to boot into rescue (or "safe") mode, and adjust the video card to a resolution the monitor supports. OR, power supplies usually go bad because capacitors bulge or otherwise go bad. Most monitor power supplies are hard to get, so people typically repair them. If you disassemble the monitor shell, you can see the power supply (where the AC cord goes). You can look at the metallic, cylindrical looking things with minus signs down one side, and if they look bulged on top, you can replace them. You can get replacements at mouser.com.

Sounds like a silly question but have you checked the fuse? If it isn't that then it sounds like a problem with the power board. Check it for burn marks and bulging electrolytic capacitors (they're the little round tube like things that stick up), also check any fuses on the board. If it's the caps or a fuse then just replace them, if something else is burnt out then you'd have to replace the board but you might not be able to find a replacement since it's old.

moz-screenshot.jpgHello Chris,

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blown a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should work fine. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. I hope this helps, iff so please rate my solution.

Monitor goes blank then displays "mode not supported"

INstall the correct Video graphic card driver. The driver CD must have been shipped with the Monitor. Just put that CD in, and follow the on screen instructions.

It is most likely that the filter capacitors on the power inverter board have failed. I took mine apart and found seven swollen capacitors on the this board, they fail prematurely and seem to be the only thing wrong with the unit. I replaced them and now it is working just fine.

six 470uf 25v electrolytic capacitors and one 220uf 25v Capacitor.

you should not attempt to repair this yourself unless you have some electronics training since there is a shock hazzard involved and also these capacitors will blow apart if they are installed incorrectly (very messy experience).

This is a common problem due to capacitors in the inverter circuit going bad. The inverter provides the voltage to light the backlight, so the lamp is usually not the problem.

If you open the case on the monitor (sometimes that's a challenge all by itself) and follow the wires from the backlight to the circuit board, you'll find the inverter circuit. There are normally a couple of transformers (they may be small square cases or round coils of wire on black or gray forms), some transistors, and the infamous capacitors. The caps are small cylinders with printed values on them, like 4.7uf, and also a voltage rating. Most of these are values you can find at Radio Shack, so if you or someone you know has soldering experience, you can try changing them. Stick with the original capacitance value (the uf number), but try to get a slightly higher voltage rating if you can. The voltage ratings come in standard values, like 16 volts, 25 volts, etc. The higher voltage parts will be a little bigger but should still fit. They go bad because the rating wasn't high enough to begin with. But it saves the manufacturer a little money on each unit. Make sure you observe the polarity of the capacitor (plus and minus, with some kind of marking on the circuit board to show you) when you put in the new ones.

The monitor with no picture

There are few possible reason that the screen doesn't comes properly. You should check these things carefully 1. Make sure the capacitor chipset is good . 2. Soldering need to be perfect ( because if you put more than it needed then sometimes it make problems). 3. Check the LCD paper displaced or not.

MAG Innovision LT916S monitor problem

Hi this is the way how to examine what's wrong with your monitors. After you turned it on and the screen went black, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. This is because of the lamps inside screen. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so. Hope this help!! If anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
Thank you,
Tan
