Re: configuring modem so limewire and shareaza will work
If you have recently got a new router, there
would be a firewall on the router blocking the required ports for
LimeWire to operate. To get around this, refer to your Router's user
manual and find out how to access it and then unblock those certain
ports. PLEASE NOTE: Do not attempt to unblock all the ports as this
will increase the risk of getting your router and perhaps your
computers infected with viruses.
If that is not your problem,
you may be using and ISP (Internet Service Provider) that has blocked
those ports as downloading music uses a lot of bandwidth which is a
burden on them. If you have Satellite Internet, this is probably the
case. You can try and resolve this by contacting your ISP and
negotiating a price for them to unblock the port for you.

Web of trust add on for google chrome detects shareaza.com as a website with a poor reputation. You can remove shareaza by going to the control panel, click on add or remove programs and look for the program and click on remove or uninstall. Do a virus scan using trendmicro housecall which is free and scans from either IE or Mozilla. Run windows update and install every update. Install a good security software( a good free one is microsoft security essentials). If shareaza is not on the add or remove programs list, then try to google search on how to remove shareaza. I hope any of the ideas will work for you and good luck.
Hi - I received the Thomson free with my signing up with Bigpond. The IP address in my computer 10.0.0.2 would not come up on my browser. I typed in to google thomson TG782T user manual (which I did not get with Bigpond) there I found the Thomson IP address 10.0.0.138 - and when I typed in that it connected to be browser (but it is 10.0.0.2)_ they have configured it to stop anyone disabling the firewall and also not to be able to use VOIP. I think my only solution is to buy another modem/router and wish I had stayed with my DLink GS...........Regards, Robyne
There is many potential firewalls in the typical home that may prevent LimeWire from accessing the service. The computer with LimeWire is the first place to check. If using Windows, there is a built in firewall with access rules. If you have a Internet Security Suite such as Norton 360, then it will need to be configured to allow access. Next is the router or firewall if you use one. The manufactured of the device will have documents on their website that explain how to configure the device for port forwarding. If this is the case make sure the ports associated with LimeWire are forwarded correctly. After that may be the modem itself as many modems such as ones used for DSL are multipurpose devices and make use of a built in firewall & modem. Search your internet service provider for files related to access and configuration of your modem. If all this is setup and it still does not work, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may have blocked the ports specific to LimeWire and many other peer to peer file sharing networks (P2P) such as Bit Torrent. If the traffic is blocked by the ISP there is little that can be done.
are you an admin on the computer? only admin are allow to download and allow other to download...your modem is just fine.....if you are allow to download software or/and delete software. we are going to start over........uninstall any limewire if any on the computer....ok ....now go to limewire (or Frostwire) to download the newest version........a series of gray boxes will pop up once you have download and gone thru the set up routine....on one these questions (your firewall will ask if you wish for limewire to operate on this computer) you must say and click YES).......happy downloading (remember to share files........thats what p2p is about)
your downloading speed depends on your connection primarily and not your modem, check what connection you have. the downloading speed is much less than the connection speed.
You must be having a 256 Kbps connection that is why your downloading speed is very slow.
-- who is your internet service provider -- what is the operating system of your computer? -- is this working fine before or is this a brand new router
i have read the same problem on the supportrix forum and you may try this and see if this help solve your problem. make sure your computer is directly connected to the router
Step 1: Shutdown the computer. Step 2: reset the router while power on then Unplug the router’s power cable. Step 3: Unplug the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for 30 seconds. Step 4: Plug in the Broadband modem’s power cable and wait for its lights to appear stable. Step 5: Plug in the router's power cable once the modem’s lights appear stable. Step 6: Power on the computer on and configure the router settings Step 7: test the Internet connection.
if this still didnot work, upgrade the firmware of your router and repeat the same steps.
configuring the router settings will depends who is your provider. if your isp is dsl you need to configure your ISP username (email address format) and password on the router. if your router is a cable no need to change any settings on the router. it should automatically work
The computer that you're using for these services needs to have a static IP address configured in your private network and not a DHCP address assigned by the router.
Depending on your security policies (computer firewall and/or router), you will need to sure that the settings from your router and/or your PC firewall are not blocking the ports that you need to connect for these services.
Once you know that you have this area covered, you can move forward with the necessary procedures to properly configure your Speedstream 5200 using the link below:
Find the IP address of the modem, it should be on a label on the bottom of the modem or in the owners manual that came with the modem. Then open internet explorer, in the address window, type > http:// then enter the IP address next to the // then press the enter key, you will see the home page of the modem, logon to the modem at this screen and make the change to the firewall to allow Limewire.
