Hi Jan, the problem is a bad ice maker water valve. Pull the refrigerator out and look for the plastic water line that's going to the tube that's freezing. Follow that tube to the faulty water valve. The problem is, its leaking water slowly to the ice maker and it freezes up . Easy fix : Good luck Appliance Repair Tucson, AZ Refrigerator Repair service 520-888-7039
yes exactly,
follow your tube down to the water vavle you probaly have a small leak in the solonoid and it is dripping up
hard to beleive but it is
you can also turn down your freezer just a bit
but you will find the replacement water valve at the www.appliancepartspros.com
Tube sometimes freezes because of minerals in it hold one droplet at a time until buildup freezes solid. Replace tube first. Water valve allowing some droplets through can also cause this. Tube first-less expensive.
check 2 things. Make sure the fill tube is going downwards to the cup inside. The second thing is when the valve shuts off make sure it closes right away. If it doesnt then replace the valve.
If the fill tube gets choked up with ice, (Figure S-4) it usually means that the water fill solenoid valve is leaking. The valve is not closing properly and is dribbling water. If the leakage is slow enough, water may freeze in the fill tube. Over time it will freeze the tube completely shut.
SRCTE, Are you certain that you installed a NEW water valve? To isolate the problem between the ice maker and the water valve. Remove the ice maker from the refrigerator. Inspect the water fill tube for being stopped up with solid ice. If so, clear the solid ice with a hair dryer blowing hot air into the end of the water fill tube. Insert a long screw driver into the end of the water fill tube to break loose any remaining solid ice up in the tube. Inspect with a flash lite to verify the water fill tube is clear and open. Leave the ice maker out of the refrigerator overnite and operate the refrigerator as normally used. After 6-8 hours, open the freezer door and inspect the end of the water fill tube; if the water fill tube is clear of solid ice then you have a bad ice maker which must be replaced. If on the other hand the water fill tube has ice protruding from the water fill tube then the water valve is defected and must be replaced again. If the water valve is replaced you may desire to install an external in line water filter. Hope this helps you. Henry
On mine the water inlet feed tube would freeze solid. Removing the ice tray and using a hair dryer to completely thaw the tube would get it working for another month or so. My frig had a solid rubber inlet tube. I noticed at the appliance store that newer models had an inlet tube that was split on top. I got one of these from a local appliance parts store, and it fixed the problem. The tube replacement it easy. Get to the back of the frig. Turn off the water supply. Carefully pry the white plastic piece out ( located on the upper right side when facing the back of the frig. ) of the frig. When you have the new one in hand it will be clear what you are going to do. Pull out the old remove the water line. Attach the line to the new tube and insert it. Turn on water, check for leaks, and you should be ok. This repair is only effective if you have an inlet tube that freezes up. There can be many other malfunctions that stop ice makers from working. This was my problem. Replaced the tube 3 years ago and ice maker has worked fine since the replacement.
The solenoid valve can leak slightly to make your problem. To check it, undo the tube from the solenoid to the freezer with the solenoid unplugged, and the water pressure on. Any leakage is bad, replace it.
sounds as if your water inlet valve is not closing fast enough allowing a small amoutn of water to accummulate in fill tube freezing and eventually freezing solid, would try replacing water inlet valve, or even the water filter if this model is so equipped
