Hey, bad news for you, the mechanism seems to be jammed, fixing this yourself can be really difficult, I have tryed and failed.

I would recommend takeing the camera to a local electronics or pc repairshop for analysis.

Warranty doesnt cover this problem.

How do I fix error 99 on my Canon EOS Rebel XS

sir just read this
i think the lens contacts were dirty and to get a pencil with an eraser on the end, just a regular old pencil with a red rubber eraser. Detach the lens from the camera, hold it so that the lens' gold contacts are pointing down and lightly erase their exposed surface, cleaning them of any hand oil that might have gotten on them. Do the same thing with the gold contacts inside the camera body. This is a bit harder but it's doable: just hold camera so lens opening points down so no gunk falls in. Erase lightly. I used a lens cloth and dabbed at the contacts rather than blow them so as not to blow the erasings inside the camera.
I did this to each of my three lenses just to be sure. Lo and behold, it worked. I've shot numerous pictures with each lens and have not gotten a single error 99 message. I'm psyched, I feel like I have a whole new camera now.

hope that it will be help full

thanks

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

Automatic lens cover does not fully open

1. there's a problem inside of the camera especially the gear if the camera fell down or applying excessive force to the lens part. The gear was broken thats why it was not fully open and having weird noise inside.
2 if you went out to the beach or place a lot of dust.possible the sand or dust goes indide of the lens gear and cause of stuck up and not fully open the lens.sometimes becuase of this the gear was damage or broken and you need to bring to service center.

Broken lens : error

The lens unit will have to be replaced. This is a factory level service. It will most likely be more feasible to replace the camera!

Kodak camera dropped lens cockeyed stuck open

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Turn on the camera, cover lens is closed even though i already pull it down

if you open up your casing you will find that almost dead center on the front PCB, just to the right of the battery at the top of the empty battery area there is a box. possibly with some plastic fragment that is broken off. if you touch inside this box w/ something conductive it will think the lens is open. You can either fix this area or permanently solder it so it thinks it is always open. You can still turn it off using the button on the side of the camera
