Screen colour is distorted

Originally the initial screen had a clear blue background with white lettering and DVDs that were played had good colour.
Now when we turn the system om the screen is a distorted grey with hints of colour surrounding the lettering. When we play a DVD it is equally distorted.
Can you suggest what may be the problem.

you may want to check the cable that connects your tv and player as this may be faulty already and start to recieve interference. try to clean the lens as well as this also give effect to the screen.
