Dryer The motor would run untill I let go of the start switch. After I changed the belt and the guide assembly only the timer ticked. The motor will not run or start even if I hold the start switch. What happen to the power to the motor?? I checked the door switch and the inline saftey switch on the tension arm. Can you help?

Thank-You I think I found the problem and as you said, the wireing diagram was helpfull in locating the breakers but I will look for the location of the switch. I took alot of information off the website that helped. I should have called someone to repair it, it has cost us over $100.00 at the coin laundry. Thanks again.

what kind of dryer do you use?...and as you have said...is there a safety switch on the tension arm? by the way, was the belt broke that's why you changed it?

Drcool is right, we need to know what type of dryer, but is sounds like the centrifugal safty switch is bad and that is why it was not reamining running after you release the start button. Some dryers it is seperate from the motor, others it is in the motor, that is where I would start testing and see if that switch is bad. You really will need a wiring diagram to truly trouble shoot it, and most dryers have them somewhere inside the covers.

Sounds like the wire going to the motor from the timer is open somewhere or the contacts in the timer is not making a connection. If you have a schematic you could see which wire feeds the motor and see if it has voltage coming out of the timer.
If it has voltage could be a wire or the start switch I see you said start sw works though. Hope this helps if I think of anything else I'll let you know.

My estate gas dryer isn't working, i hear timer, but motor not turning

Door switch, broken belt maybe. The way it works if the fuse on back is ok and their are no obstructions which might cause a fire, the motor must be turning in order for the centrifugal switch inside it to allow power to the gas assembly. If that same fuse was blown however no power would get to the gas assembly but the dryer will still run. Based on that I would say you have a bad door switch. if not that then it is down to a bad motor or a bad timer. In the case of the timer it is a strong possibility the knob could be broken or the stem inside the timer itself is not advancing the cam and therefore the machine will not start. I saw that one just last week. Them timers are crappy on them machines.

Will not start but its making a ticking sound

Electric or gas dryer?
Depending on where the ticking sound is coming from, without more specific information, many dryers use a timer within their dial for timed drying. If the switches are malfunctioning, the ticking of the "timer" can still continue.
If you can hear a whirring sound, which would be the motor, then it may be the drive belt. If this is the case, then the ticking of the timer may be more noticeable due to it being quieter without the spinning drum.

If you have a gas dryer and the ticking is from below, then it may be the ignitor that's faulty. However, that shouldn't cause your dryer not to turn on. It that case the dryer would spin, but not get warm.
With more information, I may be of better assistance.

probably has a broken belt, there is what is called a "Broken Belt" switch by the motor inside on the idler pulley tensioner for the belt,if the belt breaks this switch opens so the dryer wont run without the drum turning so as not to overheat and burn your clothes, replace the drum belt and you should be good to go

Have a 90 series kenmore dryer, won't always run. replaced the motor about 6 months ago, and now it will sometimes run, sometimes not. It gets hot, and will run for a bit then shut down, then start up...

If the timer is not advancing but is ticking that could be the problem. A dryer achieves a set temperature and stays there for a certain amount of time during a cycle. If the time never changes it may just keep heating up until the heat sensor shuts it down. If it is starting and shutting down its likely still related to the heat sensor.

Whirlpool LEQ8000JQ - My timer ticks but the dryer will not run when start button is push.

More specifically, the timer can be heard running, starts and stops when door is closed/opened, so not likely to be the timer. You have a problem at the motor. A wire off a terminal, the switch on the motor, or the motor itself.

Kenmore dryer not running

Ticking sound is the timer running--so it is not the problem unless a contact has failed or a wire has come loose.  Broken door switch, thermostat failed in open position, or clogged lint filter/exhaust vent/outlet would keep unit from running.  If you can hear the motor running but the drum is not turning then the drum belt is broken.
