How do I troubleshoot drying problems ?

The vent is clear, the unit just isn't drying ! The unit is only 3 years old. I am a electrician so I can look at the parts. I can't get the clips off the bottom to open the unit up !

I have the front of the dryer off, I can smell gas, I see the ignighter light up, but the flame doesn't start. Is there an adjustment? It worked perfectly for 3 years, then this. Can anyone help?

Our five year old dyer doesn't heat up. We checked the vents and it is lint free. I can't open the bottom of the dryer.

The ignitor glows, the burner lights, but only for about 10 to 12 seconds. The drum continues to spin. After about a minute the process repeats. At this rate the clothes never dry. I replaced the thermostat on the pipe just above the burner, but that didn't fix it.

Most likely, it is the flame sensor.
This is mounter above the burner, it is round and has 2 wires and 2 screws holding it in place.
Clean it, or replace it.

Check the heating element. it is a wire that heats up in the unit that gives you heat. about 15or 20 bucks

You may have a clogged air vent, check that the air vent hose is not smashed, if it is not smashed, have your dryer vent cleaned professionally, all the way from where the dryer connects to the wall to where the vent leaves the home,
Recheck the dryer operation, dryer vents should be cleaned every other year for optimum performance

You have either shorted the breaker or broken the coil. If you check the breaker first, save time. If that isn't it, and you need to replace the coil, be careful that you don't short the coil against the machine itself or you will end up in the same boat.

Good Luck

Check the exhaust vent behind the dryer to make sure it's not kinked.
Take off the dryer vent and run the unit to see if it will dry normally. If it does, you still have a blockage in your exhaust vent in the wall.

Hi, my stackable frigidare dryer isn't doing a very good job drying my clothes. The unit is about 3-4 years old, but has only been used for 2 years.

Make sure the vent is completely clear and the air blowing out is a pretty strong flow. It could be a defective thermostat too. Another reason is sometimes the washer doesn't spin the clothes out enough and they are too wet to dry normally.
